TnT 5k Run for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Tax deductible
We are Trent and Tracy, the adoptive parents of 11 year-old Carson.  Carson has Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS).  We are running a 5k race on February 2nd, 2013 to raise awareness of FAS and to raise money on behalf of the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS), a gofundme.com verified charity.

When we adopted Carson at birth, he looked and acted the way any infant does.  When Carson began having developmental delays (physically, mentally, and socially) we began having him tested for many different things with many different doctors over many years.  Cystic fibrosis, autism, and other things were ruled out.  Eventually, he was diagnosed with severe ADHD and Apraxia of Speech (he was non-verbal until he was nearly 6) and had other issues that bothered us; overtly friendly towards strangers, difficulty in learning and retaining schoolwork, behavioral problems, etc.  We began researching FAS on our own (no doctor Carson had previously seen in 10 years had even mentioned this to us) and in August 2012 Carson was diagnosed with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome.

FAS falls under Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) which is an umbrella term describing the range of effects that can occur in an individual whose (birth)mother drank alcohol during pregnancy. These effects may include physical, mental, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities with possible lifelong implications.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that .2 to 1.5 cases of FAS occur in every 1,000 live births.  Additionally, the CDC estimated in 2002 that the The lifetime cost for one individual with FAS was estimated to be $2 million.

The vision and mission of NOFAS is "A nation where all children are born alcohol free...while (striving) to prevent alcohol use during pregnancy and supports individuals and families living with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD)."

Please join Tracy and I in raising awareness of the lifelong effects of drinking alcohol during pregnancy and by making a donation to the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome so that other children and parents do not have to battle the issues that my family has, and will continue to battle, during Carson's life.

All funds are deposited directly to NOFAS, a 501(c) charitable organization!
