Lexi was overjoyed when she found out that she was going to be a first time mom with identical twins. She had an intimate gender reveal with a few family and friends on November 19th, and then announced to the world that she was pregnant with twin girls on Thanksgiving Day.
The very next day, Lexi was having complications and went to Highland Hospital (where her doctor is located). However, Highland was not equipped to handle premature twins at only 23 weeks old, so she was transferred to Strong Hospital. Shortly after, Lexi had to have an emergency C-Section and her twin girls were born at 12:46am on November 25th - at only 23 weeks and 1 day old.
Lexi had Journey first, weighing 1 lb and 1 oz, and Amethyst was second, weighing only 13 oz (landing her in the 1st percentile for 23 week old babies). Journey tragically passed away after fighting for her life for about 8 hours. Amethyst is currently stable but the doctors warned that this will be a roller coaster. Amethyst will be fighting hard in the NICU with around the clock attention and lots of medical support and equipment, so this will be a long road ahead for her. Best case scenario, Amethyst will still be required to stay in the NICU for months, and Lexi will have to be alongside her during that time.
Lexi never expected to have the babies so prematurely. She has only had approximately half the time she thought she would to financially prepare, she hasn’t had her baby shower, she will be out of work for months (with no paid maternity leave), and now she will have hospital bills as well as funeral expenses for Journey - on top of all Lexi’s day to day bills.
No one can mentally prepare for something this tragic. Lexi is dealing with so much physically, mentally, and emotionally - so this GoFundMe is to help take one thing off of her already overwhelming plate. Please donate whatever you can to alleviate some stress, and please send prayers, love, and positive energy to Lexi while she grieves her first born Journey and to Amethyst while she continues to fight for her life.
Thank you so much, whatever you can do is greatly appreciated by her and her new family.
