As the oldest Scouts Group in Wokingham, 1st Finchampstead Scouts opened its doors in October 1919. We are a thriving community service, constantly thinking of new ways to challenge and bring new experiences to the over 120 local young people in our membership.

Our young people begin as Beavers aged 6 - 8, progress to Cubs aged 8 - 10.5 and then onto Scouts between the ages of 10.5 to 14. We also house a district Explorer group for older Scouts aged 14-18.

The group is run entirely by a team of local volunteers. It takes over 50 enthusiastic adult volunteers and a team of young leaders to plan and execute a rich and diverse programme of weekly activities that includes hikes, climbing, caving, raft building, shelter building, pioneering etc and a regular offer of overnight activities including domestic and international camping trips.

Like all charities though, staying afloat given rising cost pressures has become increasingly challenging. Our income does not support our annual costs, and so we rely on fundraising to maintain our existence.

Our ambition is to improve our facilities and equipment and broaden both the range of activities we are able to provide, but also to grow the group in number, including introducing a younger age range, Squirrels for young people aged 4-6.

In short we want to provide more young people with skills for life supported by amazing volunteers that deliver an inspiring programme.
