I came to Nepal to volunteer on an organic sustainable farm and hopefully learn some techniques to take home with me. Unfortunately, due to the global climate crisis, monsoon season overstayed it’s welcome this year, and the constant rain didn’t allow me to do much work in the fields. Hari, the man who hosted my visit, is a teacher at a local Nepalese boarding school, which also serves as the village’s temple, for boys aged 11-18 who are studying san script with a goal of becoming Hindu monks.  I needed to find a new way to fill my time, so I decided to help teach English at the school and the living conditions blew me away.  20 young boys are living and learning in the same room, with bunk beds crammed together, and owning little more than the clothes on their back.  Their bedroom also serves as their classroom, and there are only two teachers for three grades, only one whom lives with the boys. The school needs money to improve living conditions and to build classrooms. The students don’t have enough clothes for the upcoming winter season, and a few suffer from preventable pneumonia each year due to the cold. In addition to better living and learning conditions, the boys need basic necessities, including blankets, toothbrushes, shoes, and soap. Please help grant these boys the basic needs we take for granted everyday!
