Living in Yamhill county for so long, especially as a Personal Support Worker, I have come to realize that there are hardly any resources available to our ID/DD population. This has led me to the creation of a reoccurring ( weekly/ possibly biweekly) exercise class for individuals experiencing Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This class will be known as T.H.R.I.V.E: Think Health and Reach Inclusion Via Exercise. Why T.H.R.I.V.E??Physical and mental health are equally important. The goal for this class is to not only build on their physical and mental abilities, but social well-being as well. We at T.H.R.I.V.E will strive to personally connect with each athlete, to model the importance of physical and mental exercise- all while working together and making new friends. This class will be all inclusive and open to all ages. It does originate from Newberg/ Yamhill County- but not limited! The location for class itself has been chosen, however I am waiting to release those details until class can be scheduled.I plan on this class relying solely off of donations, as I do not want the athletes or their families paying for my services, they already have plenty that they are funding. Donations will be going straight into the class, from exercise equipment and insurance to T-Shirts and awards. Keeping in mind that if T.H.R.I.V.E is successful, it will be accessible year round!! Being healthy, exercising, and meeting new people is important for ALL humans to do, let’s treat it that way. That’s all I am saying for now, if you have more questions about registering an athlete or volunteering yourself, please do private message and/or email me at, [email redacted].
