This is Ava McIntyre, a beautiful, happy grade 1 student. This year, Ava was scheduled to have a planned operation, a surgical procedure to fix a heart condition. Ava had this surgery in April this year, however, there were unfortunate and serious complications. A blood clot traveled to the left side of her brain resulting in a major stroke. This little girl found herself clinging to life at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. She has had a portion of her skull removed to reduce swelling and is fighting infection as well as issues related to the stroke. As of the start of May, Ava has relocated to a rehab hospital in Toronto associated with SickKids. Here she will begin the next part of her journey to working on movement and speech recovery. Ava is a tremendous fighter, she has made incredible progress so far but has a long road ahead of her yet. She is surrounded by those that love her dearly. Her mother Denise is constantly at her side and she will be for quite some time. At home, expenses have been adding up, this self employed single mother is in need of our help.
