Interview about the explosion in 26

My name is Cheryl Gouthro. I am formally from Cape Breton, N.S and my father was a coal miner for 32 years.  He is currently a tour guide at the miners museum.

In 1979, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, an explosion occurred at No 26 Colliery Coal Mine.  12 men were killed, and 4 others severely injured.  This was a devastating tragedy that affected everyone in the community and still does today. The men left families behind and have grandchildren today that have never met their grandfathers.  I am hoping to raise enough money to help the families see that a memorial monument be made, to include the names of the men we lost that night. Once we can raise enough funds, the money will go to the Miners Museum director to have the memorial placed at the museum.  This is a part of our Cape Breton heritage and we need to honor it.   I have included a link to the CTV news story.
