15-Year Waitlist: Your Support Matters Now

Hi, my name is Edith Rockett. I am the owner and director of Live Laugh Love Club. We are a day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In my 20+ year career in special education with one of the largest school districts in Texas, I have had the pleasure of working with families and their loved ones with special needs. My journey throughout those years provided me with experience as a Life Skills classroom teacher, Life Skills specialist, Autism Specialist, Behavior Specialist, and High School Special Education Campus Coordinator. I gained an immeasurable amount of knowledge, some very valuable skills, and built an arsenal of tools and resources. Most importantly, I was in a community with some great leaders who I now call friends.
A journey of 20+ years cannot be fulfilling without being part of a community, and I know that adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities want to be part of a community as well! I am a problem solver by nature, and as I saw how fulfilling life was for students with special needs in the school system, I couldn’t help but think about what life was like for them once they exited into adult life. So here I am, attempting to put a dent in the need for those adults who left the schools and need a community.
By opening this program, I am seeing firsthand that there is a need for our services, but many parents do not have a means to afford the services. There is a waitlist that is 15-18 years long for families to receive funding for long-term care. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to provide the services without funding as we also need to keep our doors open. We are not a non-profit nor a large company so our fundraising options are limited.
The cost to attend our program is at minimum $45 a day (6-7 hours) and 3 days a week M-F is recommended to help establish a routine and rapport.
We would like to offer scholarships or subsidize at least 4-5 more members who are in need of our services but cannot afford them at the moment for 2-3 months. School is about to be over for summer and day programs that accept 18+ Individuals with disabilities are limited. With your contribution, you are giving someone an opportunity to have a summer where they can live a life they enjoy with us in the community.
In Sincere Gratitude,
Edith Rockett
P.S. We will have an Open House and Silent Auction on Saturday, April 26th, along with a Pop-Up market and a Rummage and Snack sale!
