14yo Dora and 94yo Ernesto Gutierrez

You’ve probably seen dozens of GOFUNDME pages from families devastated emotionally and financially by a family member afflicted with COVID-19, and even supported a few. Well here’s one more story but, but closer to home than most.
https://www.gofundme.com/f/14yo-dora-and-94yo-ernesto-gutierrez
All of you receiving this email either know very intimately or have worked with Marvin Gutierrez.
No he does he does NOT have COVID-19, but his Dad (Ernesto) in Honduras does. Ernesto is 94 years old and is basically blind having survived a brutal robbery and assault years ago. He lives alone in a one-bedroom home on a banana plantation and even as recent at 94 yo, tends to his own personal needs and for the plantation.
After several days of very high fevers, he travelled many miles from his home to a hospital in the city, and was diagnosed with COVID-19. The hospital administered treatment for 4 days and despite pneumonia and spiking high fevers on regular basis, they discharged him and sent him home due to over-crowding in the hospital.
This is a real portrayal of everyday life in third-world countries, except this is someone close to us. However, this is not even the plea for your help for Ernesto. Marvin’s brother Nelson and his wife, prepare meals and bring them daily to Ernesto. Even though Nelson tested negative for COVID, there’s a high likelihood that he passed it to his 14yo daughter Dora, who also tested negative, but has pneumonia which were the same symptoms her grandfather had.
They are not able to test the rest of the family because of the cost and scarcity of COVID-Testing, esp if you are not already showing symptoms.
Our plea for help is to help raise funds for Nelson, so he can get property medical care for Dora and hopefully have some money left to test the rest of the family.
Neither Marvin nor his family solicited our help – in fact Marvin did not even tell me about this because he knew I was dealing with the final stages of my Father’s life who suffered a severe stroke this week.
Whether you can support Marvin’s family with a few dollars or even prayers and well wishes online at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/14yo-dora-and-94yo-ernesto-gutierrez , or email: [email redacted] or text: [phone redacted]
Each dollar goes a long way, and the support from friends 3000 miles away would mean a lot to their family.
Thanks for reading all the way through this long email. Please feel free to forward to friends and family who may be interested in this story.
