Hi, my name is Megan and I am running 10K for the charity: “The Institute for Cancer Vaccines Immunotherapy”. I will be running this 10K at Dinton Pastures on the 17th of July 2025.

Earlier this year, my family was devastated to learn that my dad has been diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma cancer. The shock and heartbreak that has followed this news has been overwhelming, and difficult to process. Dad has recently begun his journey with immunotherapy treatment, and we hope his body responds well to it, helping to prevent the cancer from spreading further.

While we are incredibly grateful that my dad's treatment costs are covered, but we are still faced with the reality that cancer care is not just about treatment costs. It involves specialised care, and continuous research that helps find better ways to treat cancer. This is where “The Institute for Cancer Vaccines Immunotherapy” comes into play, and why I am asking for your support.

Immunotherapy is a type of treatment that helps the body’s own immune system fight cancer. It works by boosting or changing the way the immune system attacks cancer cells. Unlike traditional treatments like chemotherapy, which targets the cancer directly, immunotherapy helps the immune system recognise and destroy cancerous cells, improving the body’s ability to fight cancer on its own. It's an incredibly important form of treatment, as it can slow down or even pause the cancer's progression, offering a fighting chance when other treatments may not be as effective.
