Well we did it!
OMG it was tough, it was a long way to walk in the heat and very hilly!
In May we headed to Belgium (at our own expense) to take part in 100Km Van Leper walk in 3 days to help raise much needed funds for our local branch of the Royal British Legion. We were part of a small team of veterans going from Gloucester to take part which also includes our RBL branch Chairman.
The 100km walk took place in Ypres (9-11 May) and included hundreds of veterans from across Europe.
We covered all costs to participate ourselves, so 100% of all money raised via our fundraising activities goes directly to help veterans right on our doorstep. This page is linked directly to their bank account.
At local level the branch assists with the following:
- Provide social, welfare and mental support to all members of the British Armed Forces in the community.
- They host monthly lunches and ‘socials’ for older veterans in Gloucester to ensure they eat a hot meal, form friendships and are not isolated. Provide social visits to local care homes where veterans are living.
- Quick release funds for specific items to veterans in our community that have fallen on hard times.
- Provide welfare packs/treats at Christmas to veterans in local care homes.
- The Branch will work with a third party to identify and provide welfare packs at Christmas to homeless veterans in Gloucester.

We appreciate every single penny that has been donated either via this page, or off-line.
Aside from the sum on this page, £1500 was donated by Cheltenham Round Table as a 'thank you' for our 9 nights voluntary work with them on the Santa float, plus £296.50 at our music quiz night and nearly £40 in our pot at G&M Motors.
Drum roll . . . . . . . whoop, whoop, that's over £4000!!!!!!!
