100km ultra carrying my mothers urn

On March 28, 2026, on the second anniversary of Lisa Sangregorios passing, Marcella Sangregorio will be running from Calgary AB to Ghost Lake and back carrying her mothers urn.
Lisa passed away in March 2024 after battling stage-three brain cancer for over twenty years. She taught her family that anything can be endured. This run is Marcella’s way of honouring Lisa’s memory and demonstrating the endurance of love, grief, and resilience. Every kilometre will embody both the physical and emotional weight of carrying her mother’s urn across 100km.
Marcella is working with a Calgary-based filmmaker (a SAIT film graduate) to document this journey, aiming to create a documentary that blends endurance, grief, and human strength.
Some of the initial donations will go toward thanking the filmmaker who is helping capture this story. He has offered his time for free, but I want to give back as a gesture of gratitude. ALL donations after the initial honorarium will go to Janice Care Services and the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada.

Now, I’m running to Ghost Lake carrying her urn to fulfil the promise I couldn’t keep when she was alive. This run is how I make sense of why I’m still here and she isn’t. It’s how I live in a world without her gentleness, her smile, and her strength. When I want to stop running, I’m reminded of my beautiful mothers forehead stapled after brain surgery, the countless falls, her tears as she kissed my hand even though she no longer had the ability to say words. Every step I take is for her. I run for the part of me that carried her when I was just a kid.”
