Every morning, my father asks me where my mother is.
And every morning, because Alzheimer’s has taken that memory from him, I must tell him again that she has passed away.
He receives the news like it is the first time.
That is what Alzheimer’s and dementia can do. They do not just take memories. They make families relive grief, reshape relationships and become caregivers, often without preparation, rest or enough support.
My name is Sam Obadero. I am a Calgary-based portrait photographer, artist and full-time caregiver to my father.
I created Project25 because I refuse to let families affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia feel invisible.
Through Project25, I will attempt a Guinness World Record by photographing 10,000 people in 24 hours in Calgary. Each portrait will represent a person choosing to stand with individuals living with dementia, their families and the caregivers walking beside them.
Most importantly, 80% of the net donations raised through this campaign will be directed to support Calgary’s Alzheimer’s and dementia community through an approved charitable partner.
The remaining 20% will help cover essential costs directly connected to delivering the 24-hour record attempt, including event infrastructure, accessibility, volunteer coordination, technical production, Guinness World Records documentation, secure management of the 10,000 portraits, and respite care for my father during critical periods of the project.
This means your donation will do two things:
• Provide meaningful support for people and families affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia in Calgary
• Help create one of the largest public acts of remembrance and solidarity our city has ever seen
Our goal is not simply to break a world record.
Our goal is to turn 10,000 portraits into 10,000 declarations that people living with dementia still matter, caregivers deserve support, and no family should walk this road alone.
Photography preserves what time threatens to take away. A portrait says: I was here. I am here. I am still worthy of being seen and remembered.
This project is deeply personal, but the need is much bigger than my family.
Someone in Calgary is receiving an Alzheimer’s or dementia diagnosis.
Someone is watching a person they love slowly change.
Someone has become a caregiver without training, preparation or rest.
Someone needs to know that their community has not forgotten them.
Your donation can help us turn awareness into practical support and personal pain into collective action.
Please donate, share this campaign and invite others to stand with Calgary’s Alzheimer’s and dementia community.
Together, we can make history for a cause we must never forget.
10,000 faces.
