Support Our Outreach – And Mark’s 1,000-Mile Solo Ride!
Help the Homelezz is a small, dedicated team of volunteers based in Goole, in the East Riding of Yorkshire. We’re a grassroots community group working directly with people sleeping rough or living in vulnerable conditions across East Riding and Kingston upon Hull.
Twice weekly — and whenever possible — we head out to deliver freshly prepared hot meals, sandwiches, snacks, toiletries, clothing, sleeping bags, and hot drinks to those in need. But we offer more than just essentials — we offer time, compassion, and a listening ear.
We also support families and individuals struggling to make ends meet, as well as other local charities, community centres, and warm spaces with emergency food parcels.
We receive no formal funding, and everything we do is made possible through generous public donations. While food and supplies are absolutely vital, our biggest ongoing costs are facilitating storage for stocks and most importantly keeping our vehicle on the road — allowing us to reach as many people as possible.
Meet Mark Payne – Taking on 1,000 Miles for our cause!
To help raise funds, Mark Payne — one of our incredible supporters — is taking on a huge personal challenge: a 1,000-mile solo cycling journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats (LEJOG), all in support of Help the Homelezz.
“I retired earlier this year and wanted to set myself a challenge that would take me out of my comfort zone. For me, retirement is a new chapter — a time to explore new opportunities. I’m a keen cyclist, so I chose something partially familiar, but still tough and exciting.
My LEJOG route will cover around 1,000 miles, touching England, Wales (just!), and Scotland — and I’ll be riding solo and self-supported. I leave by train from York on 31st May, start pedalling from Land’s End on 1st June, and expect to reach John O’Groats in 12 to 15 days.
It’ll be a challenge mentally as well as physically — but that’s the point!" — Mark Payne
We recognise that homelessness is also a challenge mentally and physically and wish Mark all the best with this challenge.
