1,000 Face Masks for Ward 8, DC

Tax deductible
UPDATE
Thank you, donors! We met and exceeded our goal and will put all generous gifts toward masks for health in Ward 8. This fund is closed, but if you still want to support Ward8Woods, we can (gratefully)   to continue, as our mission says, Healing the Land, Empowering People.  Or visit our website.

THE CAMPAIGN:
$1.50 could save a life in DC's Ward 8, a vibrant but under-served Washington community at special risk from the coronavirus pandemic. $1.50 is the cost of materials for each re-useable fabric face mask sewn by our growing corps of volunteer stitchers.

This fund will enable our volunteers to sew ONE THOUSAND masks for 1,000 faces, protecting untold numbers of folks they interact with.

Ward 8 residents live close together and include many of those most statistically likely to suffer from COVID-19: essential workers, people of color, and people with pre-existing health challenges. Mutual mask-wearing is proven to prevent the spread of COVID-19, so Ward 8 Woods sees free masks as part of its mission to bring environmental justice and health to our ward.

We began with W8W Park Stewards passing out a handful of high-quality face masks sewn by volunteers. They were warmly received and we've given out at least a hundred more, but the community need remains high. With your help, we can massively scale up!

New volunteers are signing up to sew. Help us get supplies to these Stitching Heroes to keep the effort going until coronavirus no longer threatens our community.

Thank you!
