Hiking the Hebridean Way: Fundraising for Uganda & Swona

Donation protected
We’re Marie and Meg, two Year 12 students at Gordonstoun. This year we’re taking part in the Year 12 Service Project, where students travel to work on projects focused on community, sustainability and conservation.

Although we’re going to different places, we decided to take on one challenge together to raise money for our projects.

Hi I am Marie! I will be travelling to Uganda to take part in the Flooglebinder project. While there, I will be working alongside local communities and learn about sustainable development, conservation, and how community initiatives can help alleviate poverty. For me, this feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to really understand another place and culture while learning more about sustainability and the impact we have when we travel.

Hi I am Meg! I will be travelling to Swona, a small and remote island in Scotland, where I will be helping with the restoration of the island and the preservation of its wildlife and history. Being Scottish, protecting Scotland’s natural environment and heritage is something that really matters to me, and this project allows me to contribute to that directly.

To raise money for these projects, we’ve decided to challenge ourselves by walking the entire Hebridean Way, 153 km across the Outer Hebrides.

We know it won’t be easy. Hiking that distance in March means long days, unpredictable Scottish weather, and pushing ourselves physically and mentally. But that’s exactly why we chose it. We wanted to take on something genuinely challenging. For us, this represents what the service project is really about. We want to fund this experience through our own effort, and show that we’re willing to push ourselves outside our comfort zones. We believe in each other and want to fully embody the purpose of the service project by taking on this challenge together.

Our goal is to raise £5,000 to help fund our projects in Uganda and on Swona.

Any support would mean a lot to us and help make these experiences possible.

Thank you so much for supporting us!
