Dear friends:
In these trying times, many of our friends in the State College area are hurting big time... and more than ever, local Food Banks an invaluable source of food for many of our fellow neighbors..... so we are asking for your help to be a compassionate and caring part of our 'We, Not Me' Community Food Growing Program'.
This will be our 3rd year growing food for the Centre County Food Banks.....last year with 10-15 friends and volunteers (now friends!) we were able to supply nearly 2,000 ears of corn, 500 honeydews and cantaloupes, and watermelons to the food banks.... just from Ken’s property.
Plus, we harvested an even greater variety of vegetables planted and donated by Penn State's Ag. Dept. Sadly, this year, with PSU closed, there are no students to plant those fields, thus no PSU support for the food banks.
With this in mind, Ken expanded his field to over 1 acre and Bill Zimmer (Master Gardener trained) will be growing on his 1/2+ acres for our cause.... we hope to make up for what the university won't be supplying. We'll be adding cauliflower, broccoli, squash, lettuce, potatoes, yellow and green beans, and more to the corn, tomatoes, peppers, and kale we harvested last year.
100% OF WHAT WE GROW WILL GO TO THE FOOD BANKS
With no financial support from the Food Bank, nor from PSU this year, we set up this GoFundMe page to help defray our costs which include purchasing seed, weed control covering, electric fencing, irrigation, fertilizer and many other necessities... Hopefully we will blow well past $2,500 in which case please know ALL excess money raised will go to the Food Banks.
Perhaps as much or more than the money, we would like this to be a shared community and humanitarian effort.... in these difficult times, please Think We, Not Me and open your hearts as much or little as you can, be it by donation or re-posting this on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
With love and appreciation,
Ken, Bill, Karen & Jim
PS- This is the first year we are asking for donations..... it's not yet set up as a non-profit therefore, unfortunately, donations are not tax deductible yet.
