Teigan's Journey
Hiya! My name is Teigan Rose and i am 11 years old and I have quadriplegic cerebral palsy. At 2 Weeks old I was kissed by someone with cold sores which gave me meningitis that damaged part of my brain leaving me with cerebral palsy.
I was in hospital for three weeks on and off oxygen machines, regular medication, scans and tests. I finally was diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy at 9 months old. I breastfed until I was 16 months old and wasn't putting on enough weight as I found it difficult to swallow anything or take from a bottle. The doctors decided to fit me with a mic-key button so I could be fed straight to my tummy to take more calories. At the same time I had an operation to help my reflux. I took a while to come around properly and stayed at Addenbrookes for 5 days to make sure the feeds we're going ok then I was ok to go home! I have lots of help from my physio's, ot's, doctor and dietician at the Child Development Centre in Bury St Edmunds. I have trouble sleeping so I had a sleep system which fitted in my cot but have now outgrown it so sleep with my mummy or daddy it was hard in our old house as we didn't have enough room! I now have a larger home to live in and move around in my wheelchair. I have a specialist chair and standing frame as I cannot sit or stand independently. We are raising funds in order for Teigan to have a better quality of life with the help of more Physiotherapy & other treatments as well as equipment.
