Help Educate Kids in La Cruz!

Meet the Community of la Cruz. Thirty years ago, after the Civil war families refugees came to settle on a plot of land in Santa Tecla , El Salvador. Over time, 150 families started to settle into the community. They all live in extremely impoverished conditions with one room shacks and share bathrooms with 150 people. Luckily, they are now slowly moving into a series of buildings that the government is building for them. Unfortunately, many of them have low literacy rates especially the older generations and the hope is for them to be trained in a skill of carpentry in order to get jobs as there is a stigma due to where they live.
The community is incredibly vibrant, together and lacks a lot of the problems with gang violence that many neighborhoods in El Salvador have. For the past four years, some volunteers have been giving classes to the children. The very same youth of the community who are now in university are also reaching out and trying to make their commnunity better through literacy classes.
For the past four years, volunteers have visited the community and worked with kids and teens to help prosper through virtue and empowerment projects and service activities for the neighborhood. Many teens are now in university and are trying to improve their community. However, some members of the community are unable to find jobs to get out of the state of poverty they find themselves in.
It is our hope to get enough money to do two things :
1 . To buy a series of books to create a community library for the children and teenagers in the community centre in la cruz.
2. To create a startup scholarship for some of the young men so they can be trained in carpentry and steel work to get jobs.
