EAG Needs Your Support

Tax deductible
On December 6, 2016, a devastating fire displaced the Excelsior Action Group and their neighbors, the Excelsior Science Workshop and the Digital Action Hub.  While it has been nearly a year since the disaster, the process to collect insurance reimbursements and disaster relief funds has been slow.

Through it all, executive director Stephanie Cajina has worked tirelessly from a temporary location to persevere and maintain EAG’s core work providing business support, helping new business development and launching new projects along the Mission Street Corridor.

EAG has provided ongoing community and collaborative support to the Friends of Kenny Alley, Ever Upward sculpture, Excelsior Festival and community cleanups.  Stephanie and the EAG have been critical in the success of our small businesses and local merchants by providing small business financing, permitting, marketing, and lease strengthening support.

In 2002, Excelsior residents came together to create the Excelsior Action Group to address community concerns.  In 15 years since its inception, the EAG has created the Excelsior Festival, developed the Excelsior Directory, supported small businesses and business attraction, worked with city leaders and partner organizations to identify and maximize funds and opportunities available to businesses and groups in District 11, coordinated countless volunteer and community clean up events, produced the Excelsior Shopping and Eating Guide, established Beautification, Policy, and Business Support committees, led holiday window display and lighting projects, executed business rolldown mural project, highlighted pressing pedestrian safety issues, and countless other behind-the-scenes and important activities in support of the Excelsior.

Earlier this year, EAG was awarded funding to expand its services to the Outer Mission and the Broad and Randolph Commercial Corridors. Similar to the Excelsior, both corridors have been historically underserved. "We are ecstatic about offering our small business support services to more areas. Your support will ensure that we can further strengthen these last remaining cultural bastions of San Francisco ," said Stephanie.

The EAG is raising funds now in order to provide continuous services to small business and community groups in the Excelsior, Outer Mission, and Broad/Randolph Corridors.  We ask that you make a donation of whatever size works for you during this holiday season.  These funds will be dedicated to ensure that the EAG can provide continuous support to local businesses and community groups during this transition to permanent offices (and becoming a nonprofit).

Who will benefit from your donation?  What will the funds be used for?
The Excelsior Action Group is the only placed-based nonprofit offering small business support to the Excelsior, Outer Mission, and Broad/Randolph corridors. These funds will be dedicated to ensure that the EAG can provide continuous support to local businesses and community groups during this transition to permanent offices.

How soon do we need these funds?
The EAG needs your support now and in the next few months through early 2018.

What does this support mean to the EAG?
Stephanie and the EAG will be eternally grateful for any support extended by the community and merchants in the Excelsior. The Excelsior's commercial corridor is the longest in San Francisco.  Stephanie and the EAGs utmost priority is to provide support and connections for existing and incoming small businesses on the corridor.

Testimonials from local Small Businesses

“EAG and Stephanie are a virtual rolodex of knowledge on navigating all the nuances of opening a business in the Excelsior.  Stephanie has the neighborhood history and the relationships. She linked us to like-minded businesses and neighbors in addition to City Hall and planning department connections. And if she didn’t know an answer right away, she found out for us.”
 - Lea Sabado and Andre Higgenbotham, Excelsior Coffee

“When I came to the Excelsior to open the bookstore I thought because it was so multicultural we would have books on different languages and connect with people who love books. But that was not necessarily the case and EAG was really helpful in getting the word out out to the community with all aspects from social media to word mouth. They also rolled up their sleeves and helped stock the shelves when we opened and helped recruit volunteers too.”
