We are a group of Mothers who came together on Twitter and share a common goal to help others and help decrease the legal abuse that happens in the North Carolina family courts. Legal abuse disproportionately affects women throughout the state, but we understand that this happens to men as well and we would never turn anyone away due to gender.

Our focus will be on:

·        Partnering with attorneys throughout the state with positive reputations and a willingness to work on a flat fee basis

·        Assistance with writing legal documents, understanding and interpreting laws, and planning legal strategies

·        Build a support network to help get through the emotional turmoil that comes with Family Court

·        Resources to help children cope with the stress that extensive litigation puts on families

·        Create a group of “Court Watchers”, for Family Courtrooms, and publish their reports

·        Track appellate decisions and watch for trends

·        Randomly audit Family Court cases, throughout the state, and publish the findings

·        Track the current policies and the effects they are having on citizens of the state

·        Research scientific reports and policies of other states to develop practices that should be added and/or eliminated. Present our findings to state representatives in a clear concise manner

·        Develop training programs for Court Professionals to help them make the best decisions based on scientifically sound evidence

We need your help, so we can help others in situations like these:

Right now, there's a mom who hasn't seen her daughter unsupervised in over 3 years. She was never afforded due process, there was never a hearing that found her unfit as a parent. She doesn't drink or do drugs. The only thing this mom did was follow up on her child's report of abuse by her grandfather. An NC judge, abusing her power, issued an illegal order giving dad full custody. He went and took her from her school with nothing but the clothes on her back.

Another mom is forced to wear an alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet for a year because dad claimed she was an alcoholic. Dad also claimed her new husband beats her so an NC judge forced them to live in separate households. The Judge called it a "marriage ban".  Her daughter reported sexual abuse, a Domestic Violence expert substantiated the claims, Child Protective Services did not. Now this child is living with her dad while mom has to prove she's not an alcoholic although there was no evidence that suggested she was.

Two children were removed from the only home they have ever know,  at midnight, by a sheriff,  and sent to another state to live with their father.  Their Dads new family were complete strangers to the children.  A Judge in NC had them removed without a hearing, without facts, without evidence. The hearing wasn't even about custody.

Joanne had to flee the country to keep her son safe. An NC Judge ignored the evidence of abuse and that was the only way she could keep him safe. The courts in Canada looked at the same case and the same evidence and they took action to protect Joanne and her son. North Carolina responded by indicting her for abduction. She has been reaching out to the state to get it all cleared up but NC has done nothing to help.  You can read more about Joanne here: https://carolinapublicpress.org/26417/state-look-handling-child-abuse-allegations-divided-courts/

Our goal is to make sure courts are following the laws, everyone gets a fair trial, and children maintain safe and stable environments. We hope you'll help us help others.
