Hi everyone
If you could take a moment to read this I would be very thankful.
I know that right now a lot of people are feeling anxious, scared and angry due to the bush fire crisis in several states of Australia.
I want to do my bit to help. It’s a small gesture, but one of many worldwide, and all together they make such a difference.
I’m going to cut my hair off and hopefully raise a bit of money to help people in serious need.
A while back, I decided that when the 10 year mark came around, I would cut my dreads off for a cause.
Before the fires began, I’d decided to donate the proceeds to Selva: Empowering the Amazon, an education not for profit organisation based in Ecuador that my amazing friend Jacinta founded in 2016.
However, now, in the wake of mass catastrophe, I’ve decided to evenly split the proceeds between Selva and the NSW Rural Fire Service.
Firstly I’d like to tell you a bit about Selva...
The program aims to empower the Achuar community through supporting sustainable practices, focusing on equality and education, and teaching Spanish to the Achuar people. Selva strives to make the community more capable of protecting what is rightfully theirs against corporate and government interests with the tool of language.
These threats are real and happening now. This organisation is ethical, and proceeds are guaranteed to make a difference.
I’m so proud of Jacinta’s success in creating and sustaining this project that directly empowers people who have constantly been overlooked and ignored by their government.
We in Australia have also been ignored and overlooked by our government. I don’t want to make this overly political, so I’m going to refrain from going on a rant.
So all I’ll say is this - we have a degenerate coalition running the show. This is a massive disaster. MASSIVE. Regardless of the causes, we need to act and work together to rectify this apocalypse.
If all we can do is rally, speak up, and raise money, than that’s what we’ll continue to do. How long are we supposed to wait for our government to make a move?
If you too feel angry and fed up - channel that frustration into action. We, the people, can create change. Every single contribution distances us from the toxic Liberal agenda that's turning our country into an ashtray.
Right now I’m feeling pretty helpless, and this gesture is my way of contributing. Please please help me in this mission! Maybe it’s silly to raise money through cutting hair ! But I’ve had this doo for a decade, and it seems somewhat worthy of a mighty exit.
I fully understand that a lot of us have recently contributed to bush fire aid, and that’s amazing! But if you feel like going a little bit further, please spare whatever you can for this mission! Dual raisings !! The Amazon and Australia benefit ! And I'll look mighty hilarious! Triple win.
Lets help the people who have felt the brunt of rapid climate change, government denial, and corporate gain.
