Amazing things start with just an idea...
In Door County, WI there is a strong need for not only child care, but for affordable child care. Many of our families in the area are middle to lower income families, yet here in Wisconsin we have some of the highest prices for child care services. In fact according to a recent study Wisconsin falls within the top 15 states with the highest child care rates throughout the United States!
Our goal is to have membership fees that are much lower than other options in our county which are subsidized through fundraising. We will also accept Wisconsin Shares - child care assistance in order to decrease the cost even more for those families that qualify through the state.
The three main opportunities we are working towards are:
1. Improve the lives of local families who wish to work but are being forced to choose between going to work and paying for child care
2. Support local businesses by giving parents the opportunity to work that they may not otherwise be given
3. Provide a safe and welcoming learning environment for our local children
Our goal through this GoFundMe campaign is to raise enough money to subsidize the next five years of child care for 90 members from the time we open our center. The breakdown for use of funds would be as follows:
Year 1 - $150,000 to include start-up costs
Year 2 - $100,000
Year 3 - $100,000
Year 4 - $100,000
Year 5 - $100,000
By subsidizing our program we will be able to offer significantly lower membership rates to our local families who cannot afford traditional child care options. This would be a discounted rate above and beyond any Wisconsin Shares subsidy that the family would get if they qualify through the state. We not only want to bring more child care options to Door County, something this area desperately needs, but we also need to make it affordable and available to all families.
