Service Dog for Man w/Parkinson's

My husband, Jim, was rushed to the hospital in 2005 after I walked in the house and found him having a stroke, thank GOD I left work 15 minutes early that day because I had a 'feeling' I needed to get home. Several months later, I noticed he was losing his balance in the house, for no apparent reason he would jump backwards trying to catch himself from falling; he began to drool when he ate and his hands started to tremble all the time. We didn't know what was going on…it was scary. We went to the neurologist and learned he had early onset Parkinson's Disease. Our lives haven't been the same since then. He was just 40 years old. We didn't understand "why him?" We came to learn from a specialist that PD is caused by any of the following…environmental toxins, hereditary on his Mom's side, strokes, past illicit drug use, etc. There was no way to know what actually caused him to get it so early in life. Fast forward to 2011, when we were praying for my Mom to get well, she and Jim became very close over the years, but unfortunately, the Lord took her to be with Him. But, shortly after that, we learned that Jim was a candidate for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) surgery! (Mom would have loved to have seen the initial improvements of the DBS.)This was exciting because it helped relieve several symptoms of PD; the tremors, the drooling, the distonia and dyskenasia were relieved. But we learned that it did nothing for speech and balance issues - we were on our own for those problems. As if the speech issues wern't enough - his balance is horendous now...he constantly walks into walls and furniture, plus he falls all the time inside and outside the house, That's so scary for us because he falls all the time and if he hits his head the wrong way, he could die - the electrodes in his brain could be damaged. I get nervous every minute I'm home with him (I have to work full time to support us.) because I'm afraid he'll fall into something and hit his head.
Balance Dogs are rare and hard to come by, plus, they are way too expensive for us to pay on my own, with my single income. So I'm asking for your good will and generosity to help us get a Balance Dog for Jim to help him walk inside and outside the house - to give him his life back basicallly...right now he's so depressed he doesn't even want to walk to the mailbox . he used to be an Aikido Sensei - and he loved martial arts with a passion! I pray they find a cure for PD in his lifetime and also that I can find some way to help him cope with this awful disease now, in realtime, hopefully with your help...
I realize I'm asking for a lot of money, but that's how much it cost my family member who got a service dog for a loved one who experiences PTSD. I knew it was a lot of money, I just didn't realize how much until she told me recently. That's why I'm doing a GOFUNDME request. Anything you can do to contribute will be a blessing to us, and every dollar will be used to get the right service dog for Jim and to train Jim how to communicate with the dog and learn how to care for the dog as a member of our family. Apparently, it takes months of training Dog and Owner to get to know each other. Jim will need to go out of state and stay for several months, which actually makes sense because the dog has to learn all of Jim's movements and behaviors, etc. Jim will learn how to talk to the dog for each of the movements and behaviors.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and to contribute, if you can, to our request. God Bless all of you for caring!

Love,
Sharon and Jimmy
