For displaced persons, that time of the month truly is a dreadful 2-7 days. These people are forced to forego their innate human dignity and go without the resources they need to have a safe and pleasant period.

This problem is particularly pertinent with the implementation fo HB2 in North Carolina, where transgendered persons are unable to use the bathrooms associated with their chosen gender, and are unable to change their sanitary necessities in a timely manner.  In this particular demographic there are both men and women who have awful monthly periods.

We would like to play our part in increasing access to these necessities and need your help to do so. As such I have created this account in the hope of raising $2000.00 to create period packs for 100 people.

Each kit costs $15.00 and includes:

Tote Bag, 15" x 13" x 3", Nylon, Asst. Styles
Maxi Pads, Regular, 12-16/pk.
Tampons, Tampax Brand, Box of 20
Shampoo & Body Bath, 8 oz., w/Flip Top
Soap, Bar, 4.75 oz.
Antiperspirant/Deodorant, 1.5 oz., Roll-On
Mouthwash, 4 oz., Alcohol Free
Hand & Body Lotion, 4 oz., Flip Top
Toothpaste, 4.75 oz. Tube, Mint
Toothbrush, Deluxe, 52 Tuft
Dental Floss, Unwaxed, 12 Yd.
Lip Balm, 2/Pack, .30 oz., Assorted Flavors
Hairbrush, Standard, Ivory
Comb, Plastic, 7", Black
Facial Tissue, Pocket Pack, 15 ct.
Wash Cloth, 12" x 12", 100% Cotton, Asst. Colors

1 Diva cup= $40.00

1 Thinx underwear (particularly helpful to transgender men)= $40.00
https://www.shethinx.com/

Reusable sanitary items are particularly helpful as they can be used for upto 12 hours at a time, are easy to clean, and are cost effective in the long term.

For every Thinx underwear bought, a pack of pads is donated to girls in Uganda, thus increasing their chances of staying in school and empowering generations of women in this country.

This cause holds a special place in my heart because it is deplorable for people in the United States to be denied their basic human rights to health, and furthers the cycle of poverty and homelessness. Through the use of improper materials for the accommodation of the lack of sanitary materials, people are exposing themselves to illnesses and diseases, and some face incarceration for stealing tampons out of tampon dispensaries, while others forego opportunities that may alleviate their situations due to the discomforts of having their periods. This is unacceptable.

As women we are taught to embrace our periods, yet for 50,000+ people, their periods are a nightmare.

All proceeds raised will be used to purchase these items (except for a $0.30 that gofundme takes from every donation). The items will be donated to the Durham Crisis Response Center.

Dear Friends,

Thanks so much for your support of this project. We raised a grand total of $1,291.00! With these funds, we were able to place orders for 85 menstrual hygiene kits ($1308.43) that will be donated to the Durham Crisis Response Center!

We will be closing the Go Fund Me page but will continue doing work in other areas to further advocate for people with periods in crisis situations.

Including our donations from Thinx Company- we raised over $5000 worth of donations in 3 months! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Please keep an eye on our facebook page and blog for updates on TDPP and for ideas on how you can get involved.
Once more thanks so much for your support.

In Solidarity,

TDPP

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for your continued support. We have raised $1,146.00 and are less than $400.00 from reaching our financial goal to purchase a minimum of 100 feminine hygiene kits, which is amazing! It would be amazing if we hit this mark before January 1st!

All of this is possible because of kindhearted people like yourselves who believe in access and dignity for all.

We currently have enough funds to purchase 76 kits.

Let's keep up this momentum.

Share our FB page, blog, and GoFundMe page.

This campaign is successful because of the work we have done together. I am forever grateful!

Friends,

Thank you once more for your continued support. Of course we would love to give back to you!

This weekend at our Ugly Sweater Fun Run we will have an Ugly Sweater Contest, where you will have the opportunity to win some wonderful prizes!

Last week we revealed our first prize (a photo shoot with the talented Liz Goodman of EK. Goodman photography).

This week's prize reveal is a phenomenal digital painting by Louise Bahia Thompson, an MFA art student in New York!

I have the absolute honor of calling Louise a friend and role model, who always gives 100% to her work and has a truly generous soul. She is a meticulous and talented artist, an MFA student in upstate New York, a painter, a draftswoman, a writer, a gamer, AND a phenomenal human bean (another example of #girlgoals). She creates evocative art that showcases the true diversity of beauty in this world through both traditional and digital mediums. Please check out her FB page Louise Bahia Thompson, Artist to be mesmerized by her talent!

This portrait is a part of her Black Girl Magic series, a series that seeks to celebrate black excellence, and shed light on the diversity of "black girlhood".

~Let me lay out a scenario for you~

*Picture this* soft rain tapping on your windows, you have this beautiful piece of art hanging over your mantle piece, you're wearing your softest sweater, Solange Knowles' A Seat at The Table is playing in the background, and you have an Olivia Pope-esque glass of red wine in your hand, and you feel classy AF. Yes. You realize that the effort you put into your ugly sweater for the TDPP ugly sweater and fun run fundraiser was truly worth this moment.

Get your ugly sweaters ready!

In Solidarity,

Nambi
