DENE HIGH SCHOOL BREAKFAST CLUB

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Marci Ien. I have been a Canadian broadcast journalist for more than 20 years. We covered a story in 2016 that profoundly impacted me. I wanted to do more than report on it, I wanted to take action. I reached out to the school administration at Dene High School in La Loche and together we are working towards developing their Breakfast Club and creating new ways to help the community.

Here is how the story begins; On January 22nd tragedy struck Dene High School in La Loche, Saskatchewan. A student shot and killed his two cousins, a teacher, a teacher's assistant and injured seven. The community was devastated.

A year later the healing journey continues. The community has rallied and come together. One of the things that has brought them closer is sharing a meal every morning. Dene High School opens it's doors to everyone in the community and provides a hot breakfast before school. This gathering offers an uplifting environment that allows the community to bond and provides noursihment for the body and soul of students, staff and the community at large.

We will be using these funds to provide hot meals to students, staff and community members.  Our goal is to reach our target by the first anniversary of the shooting, which is January 22nd, 2017.

Thank you in advance for your compassion and  caring.
