We're raising money for the Mayor of Colchester's chosen charities.
The theme for this year focuses on improving the health, happiness and well-being of the most vulnerable people in our local communities.
The Mayor is Cllr Mike Lilley and the Mayoress is Alderman Lyn Barton, who have been serving their communities and fixing local problems for decades. They deserve recognition and support for their dedication to helping people in Colchester for so many years.
Their chosen charities are:
- The Colchester Foodbank - helping people in poverty in Colchester who are desperate for food and drink.
- Level Best Enterprises - supporting people with learning difficulties, to improve their health and well-being through art, craft-making, horticulture and many other healing activities.
- Open Road - helping people recovering from addiction, including people dependent on drugs and alcohol.
- The Underdog Crew - supporting young people with learning difficulties, autism and ADHD to learn valuable therapeutic filmmaking skills.
- The Not Forgotten - supporting local veterans and service personnel living with injury, illness and isolation.
They want to help set-up a number of music events in the city over the next year, especially with young people, to celebrate the best of Colchester.
They would also like to give young people with musical and performing arts talents a chance to shine in some of Colchester's most exciting venues.
These are the next events we have coming up, to raise funds for the Mayor's charities:
- Mixed Frequencies II at the Colchester Arts Centre on 8 November: https://tinyurl.com/mixedfrequenciesII
- A Peaceful Noise at 10 venues across Colchester on 22 November: https://good-show.co.uk/events/2695
- Underdog Crew Studios Annual Showcase event at the Colchester Arts Centre on 27 November: https://tinyurl.com/underdogcrewshowcaseevent
- The Mayor's Variety Show at The Mercury Theatre on 12 April - more details to come on this soon.
We would also like to thank Udai Gurung MBE, for allowing us to promote the Mayor's charities at the Colchester Carnival recently, which he organised.
