CNC Milling Machine for Ipswich

$145 of $750 goal

Raised by 4 people in 7 months
Hello everyone! James of the local hackerspace in Ipswich here.

We at HS Ipswich have been looking at what equipment and resources we need to invest in for the Ipswich community, and after discussion and feedback, a CNC milling machine has come out on top.

However, we can't do this alone, hence this GoFundMe campaign.

The goal is to raise $750 to contribute towards the estimated $1,250 build cost for a CNC machine. The remaining ~$500 is being paid for by HS Ipswich and its members.

About the CNC Milling Machine

OpenBuilds C-Beam™ Machine is the CNC machine of choice for this project.

Having being designed and built by OpenBuilds themselves, as well as majority of components avaialble diret from them, we have the confidence that it will be easy to build and operate.

With this CNC Milling Machine, we can use the following materials:

* Aluminum
* Oak
* Plexi Glass
* Delrin
* Foam

Find out more about the design, and examples here:  http://www.openbuilds.com/builds/c-beam%E2%84%A2-machine-plate-maker.2020/

The Plan

The plan, if successful, would be to begin the build in January 2018 at the latest, and have a functional CNC Milling machine by February 2018.

Once built, it will be made available for public use, with a low charge to cover materials and consumable parts.

Community Benefits

HS Ipswich envisions that, by having this CNC Milling machine, there will be the following community benefits:

* Low-cost public access to otherwise cost-prohibitive and high-maintenence technology
* Enable learning opportunities with support from skilled enthusiasts
* Near 24/7 operation; allow for complex, ongoing projects
* Safer operation compared to traditional manual-control milling machines
* Enables HS Ipswich to develop tools and resources for public use in other areas, including electronics & digital fabrication

Final Word

It would be fantastic if we can get this off the ground, so if you can spare a few dollars, that would be great.

HS Ipswich gives full credit to OpenBuilds for the design of ths CNC Machine, including images used.
