At 10.22 in the evening of the 29th of November 2013 horror came from the skies above the Clutha Bar in Glasgow. The bar was packed, the music was loud, and the punters were enjoying a drink – a normal Friday night in Glasgow.

Seven customers, two police officers and a pilot lost their lives that night. Just ordinary people going for a night out or ordinary people doing their job. Many more were injured and many more suffered severe psychological damage.

This was the night a police helicopter came through the roof of the Clutha Bar. It was over five years ago.

Five years of more misery was heaped on to the families and survivors. Treated with contempt by the uncaring lawyers of the helicopter company. We then waited two years for an AAIB report into the cause of the accident, only to find out the report was flawed. It was  another three years before the date of the Fatal Accident Inquiry was announced. Hopefully they will get some answers to the questions that have been torturing their souls for those five years.

Then came the final insult. Three of our families were told that if they wanted to be represented at the Fatal Accident Inquiry, they would have to contribute to the legal bill. Their choice is to pay or go through the rest of their lives with no answers to why their loved ones died.
Our families are just ordinary people, ordinary Glasgow people, ordinary people who have suffered enough. They have been asked to pay just over £8,000 towards the legal bill – very unfair, but we have no choice, we are subject to a flawed legal aid system.

This is Christmas and it can be a very difficult time financially for lots of people. Please do not worry if you are skint and cannot afford to help – sharing this post would be enough. If you can help, and any amount will do, please add to our fund. Our families need a voice at the Clutha FAI.
THANK YOU x

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
