My name is Chef William Walker, and Opleika Grows have been given the opportunity to share our love for food and cooking with the young men and women of the Opelika Learning Center.

Opelika Grows is a partnership of Opelika City Schools, Food bank of East Alabama, Keep Opelika beautiful, Inc and Auburn University. Built upon the history of Alabama agriculture to sustain citizens. We install and provide programing for service learning gardens as platforms to pursue life-long learning and to promote civic engagement with local challenges.

We are raising money to help support the costs of having to buy equipment and food for the different lessons that we are currently teaching and plan on teaching in the future.

We believe and hope that this opportunity will allow us to continue to invest in the young men and women and teach them something that they can use either in their home or as a starter in a career as a chef.

Paying forward the gift that has been given to us is very important and we understand that this is a great opportunity for us to share this gift with others. Thank you all for any support that we will receive.

Week 4 I am so humbled to be able to work with these young people at the Opelika Learning Center. We are partnered with the O grows community garden where they grow the produce and then I get to show them how to use it. Today was Sesame Chicken with Fried Rice.

Today the class had a chance to really shine and put their personal taste to the food. I gave the direction to each team and asked them to flavor their dishes and add what ingredients they wanted to use to make Shrimp Quesadilla. I was really amazed at how they worked together on each team and some of the flavor combinations that they came up with. A chef couldn't be more proud. Thank you all for your gifts and please share and like our page any little bit helps. We will be continuing this class next school year. So the continued support is very important and helpful.

Cooking is an art and working with and watching these young men and women take pride in what they are doing is truly a blessing. Today we learned about fresh pasta and prepared a dish with local ingredients. Spring pea gnocchetti with local chanterelles and onions.
