Citizens For Collin College

Anyone who lives in the region can see the growth. Record numbers of people have been pouring into Collin County -- especially over the last five years. And here’s the shocking part – professional demographers project our county population will triple by 2040.

This growth inherently brings with it tremendous opportunities for economic expansion. But that expansion requires aggressive operational growth for our municipal and educational operations. Subsequently, higher education and skilled workforce training for our county labor pool HAS GOT TO GROW in order to effectively respond to this economic dynamic.

The leadership team at our county’s college – Collin College – has taken the initiative to meet this growth head-on and make the very most of the economic benefits it has to offer. Over the last year, they engaged a team of professional demographers, architects, engineers, and market analysis experts to study the college’s service region and develop a prioritized list of facility needs that respond to an expansion of relevant educational and workforce training programs. The findings of that assignment were presented to a volunteer committee of county stakeholders -- business owners, parents, and government officials – who represent a diverse cross-section of Collin County communities.

Over a series of many intense planning sessions, the Committee of 100 worked to vet and prioritize a building program that has been adopted by the Collin College Board of Trustees as a long-range Master Plan. In turn, the college Board has voted to place a Bond Measure on the May 6th Election ballot that will fund this exciting Master Plan.

A few facts about our great college and this proposed Bond Issue:

-- Collin College is the only institution of higher education dedicated exclusively to Collin County

-- The college offers the 2nd lowest tax rate and lowest tuition of all community colleges in Texas

-- Research shows that the college effectively contributes to more than 528 million dollars in regional revenue each year

-- The college employs some of the most award-winning educators and faculty in the higher education sector

-- The Bond Issue will fund a new college campus in Wylie, as well as satellite Education Centers in both Celina and Farmersville

-- Expanded training programs supported by these facilities will increase opportunities for education and training credits that apply directly to post-high school certification, allowing graduates to go directly into the workforce and effectively contribute to society
