Cian s Development

Donation protected
Hi everyone. We are trying to raise money for Cians Early Years Development group which helps to support him in his on going development.

Cian was born with a rare genetic condition called Parital Trisomy 8 Mosacism. He was born with Pierre Robin Sequence and a Cleft Palate all of which have affected Cian both physically and developmentally.
Cian struggles with socialising and has ongoing sensory issues that prevent him from attending many social settings.
His Early Years Development Group works on strategies to make life outside his home less scary and traumatic. They have got to know Cian well and have been a constant source of support and encouragement. Christine and the staff go out of there way to try new ways to engage Cian which can be a real challenge. They never give up and always have Cians best interest in mind along with all the other kids that attend his group.
Over the past number of months Cian has been really struggling with attending groups, with crowds, with enclosed spaces, with noise and many other things.
We would like to help raise this money so that the group can invest in there small garden area as a way of getting Cian back into attending the group as he loves the out doors. Christine has many ideas and engaging toys in mind that could help not just Cian but all the kids that attend this group.

The following is a message from Christine:

Here's a bit about us, so that you know how your money will be used. Our class consists of a teacher and a nursery nurse working with a total of 20-30 children and families. Our children are all under four years old, and have a range of special needs and disabilities and they come to our group once or twice a week. Some children have genetic syndromes, others have cerebral palsy, some will eventually be diagnosed with autism but they all want to play and learn and have the same experiences that other children have. We help each child in different ways. For example, we will be trying to help some children communicate, others to move around, to reach for toys, to learn to play. We use special toys such as switches that react to a light touch, swings with a supportive seat, or our sensory play room, alongside our regular toys to ensure that our children can experience movement or improve their skills. Sone have not yet managed to operate a toy by themselves, or play a game with someone else. Through having fun, they can learn to make sense of their world and to communicate with us. Not all of our toys are specialist and expensive. We probably have the most fun with a tub of bubbles.

One carefully chosen toy can make a big difference to a child. Our switch controlled car gives our boy racer a chance to play bumper cars with his dad; the movement of our swing is calming for several of our children; our wooden trolley has helped a number of children to walk, and our bubbles have enticed many to say or sign their first word. Our wish list at the moment includes a supportive portable seat to help more children use our toy vehicles, some accessible games for the garden, like easy access ramps for balls and cars to roll down, and some switch toys.
