Here are some facts on Chicago’s gun violence:
- Chicago has more killings and shootings than New York City and Los Angeles combined—both in real numbers and on a per-capita basis.
- Over 71% of violent crime was confined to just 15 of the 77 city neighborhoods and nearly 80% of homicide victims are African American.
Chicago CRED's singular purpose is to achieve a transformative reduction in Chicago gun violence. On March 24, we are marching for our lives.
Here's where you come in.
We are organizing travel for 250 young men and women from North Lawndale College Prep, St. Sabina’s, The Firehouse and IMAN.
Who are these young people? 200 are students from Chicago neighborhoods that are plagued by violence. 50 are young men that are rebuilding their lives to be able to support their themselves and their families in the legal economy. They’ve all lost a friend or family member to gun violence. Some have lost upwards of 20 members of their friends and family to gun violence in Chicago.
The 250 young people of color from Chicago will travel to DC to make their voices heard and stand with the hundreds of thousands of people all across this country fighting to prevent and reduce gun violence.
They chose to march with the victims of Stoneman Douglas and are fighting to the reduce gun violence that’s plaguing communities in every state across the country. They’re fighting for a safer Chicago and a safer nation.
On March 23, we’ll leave Chicago and head to our nation’s capital. On March 24, we march.
Some of the young men will travel back to Chicago directly after the march and others will have the opportunity to stay in DC for an additional day where they will meet with our nation’s leaders and tour DC, including the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Here’s the cost breakdown:
6 buses from Chicago to DC: (40-50 passengers per bus)
We need $50,000 for 250 young men and women to march for their lives, which means it’ll cost $200 per person.
Here’s our ask: stand with Chicago’s future and send these young men and women to DC. Show them that you have their back. Show them what we stand for as a country.
Sponsor one person. Send ten people. Sponsor an entire bus. Give whatever you can. Let’s make a difference and send Chicago’s youth to DC to march for our lives.
