We’ve made about 100+ Redi-Walls so far, diverting about 20,000 lbs of plastic from the landfill by turning that waste into walls. With your support, we can improve this simple tech and share it with communities everywhere, to make a big impact on plastic pollution worldwide!
$50 pays for an hour-long presentation to interested community groups
$100 goes toward architectural designs and step-by-step educational materials
$300 pays two staff to lead a two-hour hands-on workshop
$600 pays for 2 workers to build our next-gen prototype models with improved insulation value
$1000 helps us test structural integrity in a research lab
$2500 buys us a pneumatic hog ring gun to accelerate production
$5000 compensates our team to mentor another community for a year, providing technical assistance, builder’s blueprints and hands-on workshops to launch their own initiatives to repurpose plastic and repurpose lives
INTRODUCING THE REDI-WALL: A LOW-TECH SOLUTION TO A BIG PROBLEM
Plastic pollution is a problem all over the world. Recycling, sadly, has proven to be no solution. Countless communities are paralyzed, left with no solution, throwing their plastic in the ocean or burying their plastic as waste. We ask: Why not turn that waste into walls? We say: Don’t recycle, REPURPOSE! Each week our multi-cultural team at the Repurposing Plastic Project (RPP) in Taos, NM builds easy-to-use modular walls out of repurposed plastic. We’re ready to market them in Taos and share our tech with other communities across the world!
We call them Redi-Walls, and they are 8’ long ready-to-stucco modular walls made of post-consumer plastic compressed inside of a wire basket. Once encased by a layer of cement stucco, they can replace cement block as a material to build sturdy, fire-resistant privacy walls, pocket patios, windbreaks, utility sheds, and even more ambitious structures like workshops and carports.
With your help, we will make, market and sell 100+ Redi-Walls in 2023, diverting about 20,000 lbs of plastic from the landfill by turning that waste into walls! IF WE DO THIS RIGHT, THIS SIMPLE TECH WE'RE DEVELOPING HERE IN TAOS, NM CAN BE SHARED LIKE SEEDS AND REPLICATED MOST ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD.
WHEN YOU CONTRIBUTE, YOU SUPPORT US SO WE CAN:
EDUCATE THE PUBLIC: We’ll produce educational and promotional videos, material spec sheets and brochures, present at community meetings, meet local officials, partner with retailers, visit classrooms, and communicate with builders to create awareness and build a market. We've completed demonstration projects such as walls, farmer's market stalls, sheds, studios and structures--now we need the community to embrace the concept, buy the product, and build with them!
TRAIN & SUPPORT BUILDERS: Our architect & design team will develop DIY Builder’s Booklets complete with design sketches, tools & materials lists, step-by-step directions, estimated timelines and costs. We can consult and provide what a backyard builder needs to construct their own garden walls or 10'x12' utility sheds out of our Redi-Walls. We will also conduct hands-on workshops and provide technical support to active projects using our products.
INNOVATE & IMPROVE OUR PRODUCTS: To make a bigger impact, we need to make our Redi-Walls more insulated, more structural, and easier to connect in order to build roofed buildings like carports and workshops. Eventually, we want to be able to build structures with Redi-Walls, not just walls! Funding for R&D is our biggest need--your support will fund the labor & materials required to innovate: to test new ideas, try new materials, fail and learn and try again. Just imagine: worldwide, countless communities building structures out of repurposed plastic walls that could create shelter or housing and reduce pollution at the same time!
