The Forgotten War
It's been more than seven months since the war started in Sudan.
The war has killed more than 9,000 lives, and more than 12,000 were injured as per official reports released on October 2023. The true numbers are thought to be much higher.
Almost 5 million fled their homes to other parts of Sudan and more than 1 million are now refugees in neighboring countries.
It's an unprecedented crisis, more than half of Sudan's people are in need of aid as declared by the United Nation's most recent report on 7 November 2023.
The suffering does not end here. Families are torn apart, not just by conflict but by relentless floods and heavy rains affecting 70,000 souls. In this heartbreaking scene, disease outbreaks have claimed the lives of many innocent children in refugee camps.
Hospitals remain understaffed and are running low on supplies. The United Nations reported that the shortage of food, water, medicines, and fuel has become "extremely acute".
The United Nations estimates that 433,000 are internally displaced in White Nile State. The health situation is alarming as 1,200 children in White Nile State refugee camps have succumbed to disease outbreaks since May.
Our goal:
We are aiming to raise $10,000 (ten thousand dollars) to provide emergency life-saving food assistance to the internally displaced in the White Nile state.
The Sudanese American Medical Association is on the ground to provide meals to 3000 internally displaced people in 17 IDP camps in White Nile State.
They live in overcrowded camps with limitations in food, water, healthcare, and basic life necessities. We interviewed hundreds of them, and all their answers were heartbreaking, they lost their homes and some of them lost their families. The situation is extremely harsh, they need urgent support.
