Somos Familia Valle

In the early morning of December 15, 2025, our community center, a safe and affirming space for LGBTQ+ families in the San Fernando Valley was broken into and severely damaged. Multiple walls were torn down, and essential equipment was stolen, including iPads, laptops, speakers, microphones, and LED lights, resulting in approximately $8,000 in damages.

This space is more than a building. It is where families find acceptance, where queer and trans youth feel seen and protected, and where our community comes together to heal, learn, and celebrate. The break-in was not only a financial loss, it was a violation of safety and trust in a space created with love, care, and intention.

We are asking our community to stand together with us during this difficult time. Your support will help us replace stolen equipment, repair damaged walls, and restore the safety of our center so we can continue providing programming, education, and support to LGBTQ+ families in the Valley. Most importantly, these funds will go towards helping us increase our security measures.

In the spirit of resilience and collective care, we are still moving forward with our holiday party next Tuesday, December 23rd from 7:00PM to 10:00PM(PST) at the Somos Familia Valle Center in Sun Valley! Given the circumstances, we are pivoting our holiday party into a fundraiser and a reminder that queer joy cannot be taken away from us. Even in moments of harm, we choose to come together, uplift one another, and reclaim our space with love and strength.

Somos Familia Valle and the Trans Defense Fund are hosting a free self-defense workshop for the TGI community (Transgender, Gender-nonconforming/nonbinary, Intersex) and we need YOUR help!

Somos has an amazing facility that is already a great space for this workshop, but we need equipment! We have plans to make this an ongoing series for the entire LGBTQ community, and investing in a set of gloves, mitts, and pads for Somos will ensure that more TGI Angelenos have the tools to learn to protect themselves.

We have priced out a basic group set of equipment for a really reasonable budget -

10 pairs of gloves, 10 sets of focus mitts, 3 large kick shields at just under $600! We hope to raise enough here to cover the costs and set SOMOS and the Trans Defense Fund up for success - but we need YOU!

After 10 years of grassroots organizing Somos Familia Valle is excited to announce our first LGBTQ+ Community Center in the San Fernando Valley! We are ready to make history with you and build this community center with the help of our supporters and allies who have been there with us throughout our growth. From organizing the annual San Fernando Valley Pride, to providing volunteer LGBTQ+ led programming, and taking community action on the ground, join us in raising funds for our community space. The center will host various ongoing free programs, campaign efforts, & events for our San Fernando Valley community. We primarily need financial support with start-up costs such as furniture, flooring, paint, recreational items, technology, and office supplies.
