Autism Therapy Center in Rural Armenia
SOAR and myself are currently collaborating with Autism mom in Armenia Tatev Mehrabyan. She is a single mother of two daughters one of whom has Autism. She has worked hard to open a non profit day care center for children with special needs in Artashat. Since services are not available for special needs children in most of Armenia’s rural areas it is crucial that these types of initiatives are supported. Many parents cannot afford to drive their children to Yerevan where these services are available for a fee. They are forced to keep the children at home with no support. Armenian Autism Parents Support Network (a platform which is designed by parents of a child with Autism to help Armenian parents of Autistic children) will be conducting fundraising activities as well as participate in and organize on line webinars for parents in Armenian, with the goal of educating and empowering them to help their children. Our current goal is to raise enough funds for the center to cover its monthly expenses such as rental of space, administrative expenses, utilities, salaries of special needs teachers as well as inventory of specialized tools to work with special needs children. Since many parents in the villages cannot afford the monthly fee of having children attend these types of centers we have a goal to raise funds to cover cost of attendance for some of these families in need. Supporting these types of initiatives also helps to create much needed employment opportunities in smaller towns of Armenia. We hope that you will join our efforts by either directly donating to the “Erazanqi Tun” NGO organization ( you can find their bank info on our page https://aapsnetwork.org/autism-center-in-armenia/ ) in Armenia or participating in our fundraising efforts here on this website through Society of Orphan Armenian Relief. Thank you!
