As some of you might know, running a marathon has been a personal goal of mine and was something I planned to do this year. Sunday, November 1st would have been the New York City Marathon. Even though the "in-person" event has been cancelled (it's now "virtual"), I'm going to give it a shot!

This is still a great opportunity to raise support and awareness for a cause meaningful to this city and I still intend on doing that. This has become increasingly important considering the challenges Covid has brought to our communities.  

To that end, I hope you'll join me in supporting the Robin Hood Foundation. Robin Hood is New York's largest poverty-fighting organization. They find, fund and create over 200 of the most effective programs to help 1.8 million New Yorkers learn and earn their way out of poverty. New York City has been the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, and New Yorkers living in poverty will continue to be hit hardest. The Robin Hood Relief Fund  is helping New Yorkers by supporting the nonprofit organizations on the frontlines. 100 percent of donations will provide emergency support through food, housing, job security and more.


About the run

Date/Time: Sunday November 1st, 8:00 AM. Finishing ~ 12:00 PM. May adjust based on the weather forecast.

Route: Starting on the Brooklyn bridge, I’ll run over to Battery Park and then up the Westside Highway. At about 58th street, I'll cut in to do a loop around Central Park before retracing my steps to finish at the top of the Brooklyn Bridge.

The Primary and Credit Markets business line within Global Markets has launched a global charity donation campaign to run from 23rd – 30th June.

This pandemic has, and continues to, have a devastating impact on the lives of millions of people around the world. In every country families already on the poverty line are now forced into even more desperate times, unsure where their next meal will come from, children with no access to education because they can’t afford it and displaced families and vulnerable people with no homes, jobs or certainty about what tomorrow will bring. Across regions, PCM has selected charities that are existing partners of the bank who are supporting vulnerable people impacted during these difficult times, and making a real difference to the most vulnerable and in need. 

One of those partners is the Robin Hood Foundation, who in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, has set up the Robin Hood Relief Fund which is supporting the nonprofit organizations on the frontlines in New York. 100 percent of donations will provide emergency support through food, housing, job security and more. Each year, Robin Hood Foundation reduce barriers to opportunities for nearly 500,000 New Yorkers, keep more than 200,000 from going hungry, help more than 10,000 to secure jobs, and help nearly 11,000 remain stably housed and off the streets. In 2019, they invested $129 million in more than 200 of the most effective nonprofits throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

In the UK
- Taalib - will keep a weekly WFH photo diary, including of his beard
- Anthony - will shave his head
- David - will write a rhyming poem about working for Taalib AND share his woodturning skills
- Lisa - will offer a mentoring session including thoughts on how to move into and succeed in a new role
- Bernd - Lockdown tennis - Tutorial and challenge
- John - will bravely allow one of his under 10 aged children to design and execute his latest haircut
- Lorraine - will offer a 30min weekly WebEx yoga/meditation "at your desk" session during lockdown
- Mark - will collate a list across BI Risk of the first restaurant/eating place people are going to visit when the lockdown gets lifted

In Ireland
Rhys - will share a video of his secret (no longer) sheep farming expertise

In Asia
Kamal - will run an online game "Guess Whose Voice". 15 risk colleagues will be recorded. 5 recordings will be sent weekly for 3 weeks to all BI Risk staff in Asia, and winners announced.

Restaurants are the lifeblood of New York City - they are there for us in times of celebration, times with friends, and quiet moments with our family.

About ROAR's Efforts:

The Fund grants are intended to be awarded on a first-come-first served basis (expressly subject to the availability of donations received by the Fund) to those individuals facing unprecedented economic hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that meet the prescribed eligibility criteria detailed below, as reviewed and verified by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF).  A one-time grant of $500 will be disbursed directly to the applicant pending NRAEF’s review and verification that their submitted application meets the prescribed guidelines. Availability of awards will be based on available funds and will be limited to one per individual.  

Restaurants and bars are the heartbeat of New York City. When the government abruptly shut them down to mitigate the spread of deadly COVID-19, about half a million people suddenly found themselves out of work, with no ability to earn a living from home. With paychecks and tips lost overnight, service workers don't know how they will cover next month’s rent, put food on the table, or pay for medicine, school, child care and more.

Robin Hood, New York City’s largest and most-effective poverty-fighting organization, has been dedicated to serving others for more than 30 years, and during the time of the COVID-19 crisis, is actively focused on those who will be disproportionately harmed by its immediate and long-term impacts.
