Amanda's Jan. 2017 DR Mission Trip
My name is Amanda Ard and I am a wife, mother, woodworker, and Christ follower.
I started woodworking in the spring of 2015 in an effort to cope with the sudden and unexpected loss of my father. While this hobby has helped me navigate my grieving process, more importantly, it has restored my relationship with Jesus Christ and led me to desire a life involved in mission work.
Many of you know that I chose to do my first mission trip to the Dominican Republic this past June. During this trip we worked closely with Emanuel House, a school started with the purpose of offeing a hot meal, an education, and a lot of love to children in the village of Quisqueya. The founder of Emanuel House, Mirqueya Guzman, hand selected 15 families to recieve bunkbeds built and delivered by our team. These were families that had multiple children sleeping on dirt or concrete floors. During our trip Mirqueya told me that their village still has around 150 familes with members still sleeping on the ground. I made a promise to her on that trip; I promised that our teams would be back until every family in their village has a bed to sleep on.
On January 22nd our missions team from Relevant Church (www.relevantchurch.com) will be returning to the D.R. for a total of two weeks. I will be leading two different week long teams in the construction and delivery of 60 bunkbeds. In addition, we will be providing mattresses and sheet sets for every bed. These beds will be delivered to the familes with the greatest need in Quisqueya. We will also take one day from each week of our trip to visit Pasitos de Jesus(an all girls orphanage) and La Esperanza( a local nursing home) to continue the work and relationships we have begun to cultivate there over our past two mission trips.
I will need 50% of donations raised by October 15, with the remainder needing to be raised in full by November 30th. The donations for my trip include airfare, meals, lodging, ground transportation, trip insurance, ministry set up, and trip coordinator. Any financial contribution you feel led to make will be greatly appreciated(your donation is 100% tax deductible). 100% of the donations go directly to this trip. There is no donation amount too small.
Why this means so much to me:
The families in Quisqueya, the incredible woman that is Mirqueya Guzman, the sweetest little women at Pasitos, and the singing and clapping angels at La Esperanza... They changed who I am forever. Through them, I found more real joy and hope in Jesus than I ever thought possible. They helped create a boldness in me that I didn't think exsisted. For me to be able to go back and continue to serve, it means that I get to repay these beauitful souls for all the life changing things they have done for me.
