Please help me raise £5,000 to support Refuge.

Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of women and children experiencing domestic abuse.

This cause is very close to my heart.

Several years ago, I witnessed first-hand the profound suffering a woman can endure when I supported a former partner through her escape and recovery from an abusive relationship.

That experience — and her remarkable strength — inspired me to take on the Cardiff Half Marathon wearing a 10 kg weighted vest, 2 kg weights in each hand, and 2 kg weights on each ankle.

The added weight symbolises the burden too many women are forced to carry while living through domestic abuse.

I couldn’t carry the suffering for her, no matter how hard I tried — but I can carry the weight and run the Cardiff Half in good time.

(And yes — if permitted — I may also be running with speakers on my shoulders blasting 80s power ballads.)

I’ve decided the best way to raise money for charity is to throw myself out of a plane — willingly. I’m doing a charity skydive on the 21st February to raise money for Refuge, and while the jump is definitely outside my comfort zone, the cause means a great deal to me.

I chose to support Refuge because this is a cause that’s close to my heart. I grew up affected by domestic abuse , and I know how important it is for both adults and children to have access to safety, understanding, and support. My mum also works in the domestic abuse sector so I’ve also seen the incredible care and dedication that goes into helping women and children rebuild their lives.

Domestic abuse is far more common than many realise. In the UK, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime, the police receive a domestic-abuse-related call every 30 seconds, and 1 in 5 children have lived in a household where domestic abuse is present.

Refuge provides lifesaving services, including emergency accommodation, specialist support, and a 24-hour National Domestic Abuse Helpline, which is free and confidential on 0808 2000 247.

This skydive is well outside my comfort zone, but it’s nothing compared to the strength shown every day by those supported by Refuge. Every donation, no matter the size, helps provide safety, support, and hope to women and children who need it most.

Hi, I'm Anah and I'm going to hike Mount Snowdon this September (exact date TBC based on weather) to raise funds to support domestic abuse survivors. Having known women in my life who fled domestic abuse, this is a cause close to my heart. All funds will go to the charity, Refuge, and ANY donation will help make an impact!

Domestic abuse is always there (1 in 5 children across the UK experience domestic abuse). It's down to the kindness and generosity of strangers to support vulnerable and isolated women and children. That first step for survivors to flee is often terrifying and brings a lot of uncertainty for their own and their children's future. The amazing people at Refuge help these survivors land on their feet and provide a safe shelter where they may have struggled to do so independently due to financial, mental and physical abuse.

Only 1 in 4 survivors report abuse to the police. The fact is, these reported cases are just the tip of the iceberg. But just because domestic abuse happens behind closed doors, doesn't mean there aren't things you can do to help. What the charity does with your generous donations:

£10 pays for a mobile phone top up for a woman to let her family know she is safe after she’s fled an abuser.

£30 covers a taxi for a woman and her children to flee her abuser and to be safe in one of the charity's 44 refuges.

£52 covers the cost of a woman and her children to have a safe night’s stay in a refuge.

I’m so excited to announce that in April 2026 I’m going to be running the London Marathon in support of Refuge, an amazing charity helping women and children flee domestic abuse.

After my own experience with a coercive controlling relationship, I know how helpless and isolated it can leave you feeling. I was lucky enough to have an incredible support system of family and friends when I got out, but so many women are not as fortunate. Refuge is that support system for so many, a safe, non-judgemental space there for women when they need it most.

A 24h helpline, emergency and temporary accomodation, financial support and specialized support for children leaving abusive households are just some of the amazing services Refuge offer.

DA will sadly effect 1 in 4 women in their lifetime, I’ll be running with each and every one of them in my mind in April !

Hi, I'm Mily, I'm 21 and I am a domestic violence survivor. I would like to turn my experience into something positive. In May, I will be walking 102 Miles to raise money for Refuge, a charity for women and children experiencing domestic violence.

I have spent most of my life a relatively lazy person, I never stuck to exercise. Since leaving my abusive relationship, I have worked hard on leaving the house more, speaking up, making statements and aiming to get justice. I was very fortunate to have an amazing family and circle of friends who helped me every step of the way. But not everyone has this, so I am raising money to support victims, to help them leave and stay away. To help them build new memories with their children in a safe environment.

I will be training, practicing, every week leading up to my hike in May 2026 - I am aiming to complete the walk in 14 days, but 12 is the real goal. My friends Lily and Holly will be joining me. They've been hiking for a while so will be helping me practice.

Every penny raised from this will go straight to the Refuge charity, it will never be in my account.
