The Fowler Theatre has stood strong in the small town of Fowler Indiana since 1940. Over the years, the theater was a major attraction in the community, but in recent years the theater suffered the same fate of many small, independent venues. In 2000, the theater was destined for closure and dismantling. A group of concerned citizens formed the Prairie Preservation Guild and set out to restore the theater to its previous glory and met and exceeded that goal.
As with any structure, age and wear and tear is always a concern. This award winning landmark structure is now in need of exterior repair and the funds needed are nearly $70,000. The board is currently applying for grants, but with those not being a guarantee and often not for the full amount needed, we are starting the Go Fund Me campaign to help with those costs.
Although we are a fully restored, award winning historic landmark, we struggle with the same challenges as any other business. All of our income goes towards our commitments for utilities, concession, loans and the costs of acquiring first run movies. That leaves very little, to nothing toward major repairs. For those reasons, we are reaching out to our patrons near and far and to those with a love of historic landmarks (and anyone looking to donate to a worthy cause). On behalf of the Prairie Preservation Guild, we thank you for any contributions you are able to make toward our goal of providing a quality service and historic landmark to the community at large.
