Ovarian Cancer Action

On the 29th December 2025, we lost our very dear family friend, our ‘Auntie’ Liz.

Liz was so brave until the end after battling ovarian cancer for 8 years. We will love her and miss her forever.

To honour her memory, and to show our unwavering support for Aidy, Luke, Isabelle, Liz's sisters and the other loves of her life, the labradoodles, Milo and Ralph, myself and my friend Gus are running 100 miles each in a week, beginning on the 23rd February. We are hoping to raise much needed funds for Ovarian Cancer Action to aid the research, prevention and treatments of ovarian cancer.

Myself and my husband, Andrew Tullin, are taking on this challenging 26 mile SW coast path walk from Lands End to Praa Sands on the 22nd of November (yes all in one day) for my Mum, Yvonne Memmott! She was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer over Christmas last year and ever since has constantly been in and out of hospital. She has got through chemo, sepsis, a crazy amount of chest drains, a permanent drain, which then got a serious infection and ended up with mum having to go back in hospital. She's in constant pain and needs a wheelchair to get out and about. Her next fight against this horrid disease is a operation in Plymouth to remove all the fluid surrounding her lungs (most of the time mum only has 20% lung capacity) and fit a plug to try and stop the lung refilling, then, as that isn't already enough for one person to go though, she has to endure a second round of chemo, due to the cancer spreading again.

We decided on doing such a gruelling fundraiser to try and raise more money for this fantastic charity. As my mum is showing such strength and determination to fight this, I wanted to take on a challenge that would reflect her determination. This amazing charity funds lifesaving research for everyone affected by ovarian cancer. Every pound we raise will help ground breaking research into better prevention, diagnosis and treatments for ovarian cancer.

At the end of Nov 2023, my abdomen began filling up with fluid & I was admitted to hospital for investigation. A few days later I was given the horrific news that I had advanced ovarian cancer. As you can imagine, this was devastating for me, my family & friends. There had been no warning signs indicating that I was ill or that cancer had been invading my body.

Ovarian cancer is often known as the silent cancer, as in ~80% of all cases, women are diagnosed at an advanced stage, meaning the cancer has spread beyond the ovaries to other organs and areas of the body.

My diagnosis showed that the cancer had spread from my ovaries to my fallopian tubes, womb, liver, spleen, appendix, large & small bowel, diaphragm and to my omentum, which lines the abdomen, protecting the organs. I was told the chance of a cure was highly unlikely, however my oncologist advised that we go forward with a difficult & gruelling treatment plan in the hope that it would prolong my life. The alternative was that I had 3-6 months to live.

Jan to Jun 2024, I received 6 rounds of chemotherapy & a major abdominal operation, where I had several organs removed. The care I received from the NHS Oncology & Gynaecology teams was incredible and still continues to be, as they regularly monitor my progress.❤️‍❤️‍

Since July 2024, I have been taking daily inhibitor medication to hopefully slow down the cancer returning. So far, my cancer markers have remained stable and God willing they remain at this level and stop the cancer from returning.

For the past year, I have been focusing on both my physical and mental rehabilitation, doing my best to get fit and eat well, to speed up my recovery.

I never thought I would ever feel normal again, but I do and I feel so thankful for that. I hope & pray this continues.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without the love & support of Alan, Rebecca, Emma, Euan and all my beautiful family and friends, who, in so many ways supported me & helped to pull me through the darkest of days.

When I heard that Chris Hoy was organising Tour de 4, I thought this would be a great way to challenge myself to improve my fitness. Tour de 4 is a cycling event which aims to change perceptions of life after a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis and at the same time raise money for cancer charities.

My daughter Emma, my friend & cycling trainer Graham Barclay and I have decided to sign up for the Red Route, which is a 56 mile road cycle ride that starts & finishes at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow & goes into the hills, including the Campsie Fells, with some sections reaching 10% gradient. This will be a significant challenge for Emma & I, as we are novice cyclists. A big thank you goes out to Graham & my husband, Alan, for their time and patience on our many training rides.‍

If you would like to donate, we have chosen to raise money for Ovarian Cancer Action, as they have an amazing research programme in place; not only looking for a cure for ovarian cancer, but they are also funding research into early detection and in to finding a vaccine to eradicate this insidious disease, that devastates families.❤️❤️

Hiya. We will be walking 100 miles in the month of October for Ovarian Cancer Action. Our family is dedicated to raising awareness about Ovarian Cancer and how crucial it is to catch it early, we aim to raise awareness about the importance of the CA125 blood test and genetic testing, hoping to improve early detection and outcomes for other women, we can significantly reduce suffering and improve survival rates. Our mother, Sharon passed away after an amazing and brave fight against Ovarian Cancer, which was detected too late at stage 3C high grade and was told it was incurable right away. Our mother never let this beat her in her short battle of 2 years. Everyday was a gift to her, she lived her life to the fullest, with saying every morning she was grateful for a new day. She took pride in her appearance and approached life with enthusiasm, and met every challenge that came her way with a bright smile and incredible strength and bravery. We appreciate everyone’s support during this difficult time.

Hi Everyone I’m going to be running the great Scottish run half marathon on Sunday the 5th of October for the ovarian cancer action charity the reason I’m doing this is my auntie is currently suffering from the illness and I’m wanting to try and make a difference not only for her but anyone else who may be suffering from the illness any help is appreciated and all proceeds will be donated to Ovarian Cancer Action once I’ve completed the race.

Hi I was diagnosed with peritoneal cancer this time last year, peritoneal cancer has similar symptoms as ovarian cancer, it’s been a tough year for me and my family and friends, I was well looked after by castle hill hospital Cottingham, there is no cure as yet for my cancer but I’m happy to say I am currently in remission due to being well looked after. I dedicated my PhD research to further our understanding of ovarian cancer treatment resistance, discovered how an increase in the level of a protein contributes to this and identified licensed drugs which can restore chemotherapy sensitivity in laboratory models. Cancer research is enormously costly, and is almost entirely funded by charitable donations and endowment trusts. Donations pave the way for advancement of patient options.

I recently suffered a cycle crash, so signing up is my motivation to get back on my bike and raise money for a great cause!
