2025 9_11 Stairclimb and Fund Raiser
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event is a tribute to the 343 firefighters who gave their lives during the tragic events at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

This event is created by two Riverside High School student athletes, Sophie Kinworthy and Charlie Smith, who saw an opportunity to interact with the surrounding community, help support firefighters in their community, and to give tribute to those who passed away. Sophie and Charlie are carrying on the legacy that was started 3 years ago by their brothers Connor and Tripp.

Participants climb the equivalent of 110 stories - the height of the fallen World Trade Center towers. Each climber is given a badge with the name and photograph of one of the fallen firefighters to symbolically complete the climb with one of the fallen. The stair climb is not a timed race and participants can climb to any desired level.

These funds will be used to donate directly to The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

2024 Honor 9-11 Heroes: Support Riverside Stair Climb
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event is a tribute to the 343 firefighters who gave their lives during the tragic events at the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

Ramiro Tapia is a proud firefighter with the "Tulare County Fire Department" with a strong commitment to community and wellness. This year, he is excited to celebrate his birthday by running 34 miles—one mile for each year—starting at Tulare County Station 20 in Porterville and ending at Texas Roadhouse in Visalia. This challenge embraces the journey of pushing personal limits while promoting physical fitness.

Inspired by the bravery of fellow firefighters, Tapia created the "Miles That Matter" challenge to honor those who serve and encourage others to get involved in their communities. While he knows this journey will come with its own challenges, he is ready to face them with determination, heart, and support from other first responders. All first responders are welcome to participate in the run! Whether you choose to run a few miles, tackle a half, or take on the full 34—or even ride a bike—your participation makes a difference.

Everyone else can help him achieve his goal by donating to the cause. All funds raised will go towards the Fallen Firefighters Foundation. A foundation that helps support families who have lost a loved one in many ways.

Tapia invites all supporters(runners and donares) to come out and celebrate at Texas Roadhouse, where everyone can reconnect and enjoy each other’s company. Additionally, a blood drive organized by the red cross will be on site.

Dear friends and family,

This September 11th, at Watch Hill Fire Department, in honor of the 2,977 victims of 9/11, I’ll be completing a 110-flight memorial stair climb. I’ll aim to complete this challenge wearing everything that the 343 FDNY victims would have likely been wearing on that day: full structural firefighting gear complete with an air pack, helmet, boots, and gloves.

In sponsoring my climb, you’ll be donating much needed money directly to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. NFFF’s mission is to honor America's fallen fire heroes; support their families, colleagues, and organizations; and work to reduce preventable firefighter death and injury. Lieutenant Craig E. Brearley was a proud and dedicated member of the East Providence Fire Department (EPFD) for 24 years, assigned to Engine 5. Through his knowledge, dedication and perseverance, he shaped the EPFD into one of the best departments in the country. Craig assisted with the clean-up after 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. He passed away on Tuesday, August 27th, 2019 at the age of 46. Craig was a longstanding member of CrossFit Prowess, where he thrived on grueling, cardio heavy WODs, during which, he never failed to cheer on his fellow athletes. Craig would often use a ruck, sandbags, or wear his full gear during WODs. Craig leaves behind his beloved daughter Payton, countless family members, friends, colleagues, and his CrossFit Prowess family. All gave some, some gave all. Rest easy Craig.
