What is The Maryland STEM Festival? A month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering and mathematics that takes place every Fall. In 2023, we are bringing hundreds of events focused on fun, interactive science learning opportunities. Students, families, friends, STEM professionals, teachers, volunteers will all enjoy events taking place throughout Maryland. The Festival highlights the educational, cultural and financial impact of science in this state. Through hands-on activities, talks, lab tours, nature experiences, expos, exhibits and performances, the Festival engages a wide range of public audiences while inspiring future generations. This Festival cultivates a positive environment that inspires children to pursue science-related careers and encourages businesses to invest in Maryland. In an era when recent reports indicate that the United States is losing ground as the world leader in science and technology, and fewer students than ever are seeking careers in science and technology, the Festival energizes our state’s efforts to respond to these challenges. How your donations help? While many of these events are hosted and funded by partners, there are several featured events that are hosted directly by Maryland STEM Festival. What is the Maryland STEM Festival? It is a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics that takes place every Fall. The 2025 Maryland STEM Festival starts on October 17th and runs through November 16th. This year's theme is energy. Last year, the Festival celebrated 10 years of bringing hundreds of events focused on fun, interactive science learning opportunities.

The Festival seeks to eliminate two major misconceptions about STEM. First, that STEM is only for certain people. We believe the Festival is for everyone, and that diversity is critical. Historically, many underserved groups have been left out of the STEM Community. These underserved communities include girls, minorities, those in rural and low-income areas, and those with disabilities. We are bringing STEM to these communities and more. The more opinions and experiences are included in the STEM world, the more beneficial it will be. As jobs become more STEM-based, everyone must have access to STEM. The Festival tries to eliminate two traditional barriers, cost and geography. Most of our events are free. We hold events throughout the state so families do not have to travel far to engage in STEM. We gear many of our events to these communities with events such as Girl STEM Powerement and STEM of Many Colors.

The second misconception is that STEM is boring! We believe that STEM is fun! Our events include competitions, entertaining performances, demonstrations, and activities. Our events include music, art, juggling, magic, comedy, and more. We encourage attendees to explore the different areas of STEM we offer and find the area of STEM that they find fun and interesting. The proof of our belief that STEM is fun is the many smiles on children's faces at our events.
