What is the Maryland STEM Festival? It is a month-long celebration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics that takes place every Fall. The 2025 Maryland STEM Festival starts on October 17th and runs through November 16th. This year's theme is energy. Last year, the Festival celebrated 10 years of bringing hundreds of events focused on fun, interactive science learning opportunities.

The Festival seeks to eliminate two major misconceptions about STEM. First, that STEM is only for certain people. We believe the Festival is for everyone, and that diversity is critical. Historically, many underserved groups have been left out of the STEM Community. These underserved communities include girls, minorities, those in rural and low-income areas, and those with disabilities. We are bringing STEM to these communities and more. The more opinions and experiences are included in the STEM world, the more beneficial it will be. As jobs become more STEM-based, everyone must have access to STEM. The Festival tries to eliminate two traditional barriers, cost and geography. Most of our events are free. We hold events throughout the state so families do not have to travel far to engage in STEM. We gear many of our events to these communities with events such as Girl STEM Powerement and STEM of Many Colors.

The second misconception is that STEM is boring! We believe that STEM is fun! Our events include competitions, entertaining performances, demonstrations, and activities. Our events include music, art, juggling, magic, comedy, and more. We encourage attendees to explore the different areas of STEM we offer and find the area of STEM that they find fun and interesting. The proof of our belief that STEM is fun is the many smiles on children's faces at our events.
