Today’s pervasive technology and polarization isolate kids, parents, and community. They tear apart the safety net of face to face, heart to heart encounters.

Instrument in hand, youngsters hear their achievement, learn to make wise choices for progress, come to trust one another.

Making music together heals holes and restores this safety net of resilience.

MUSICA’s students are exposed to polarization everywhere via technology and the news, pulling these young students away from a sense of face-to-face connection and impact of meaningful interaction. We teachers see students distracted and distant until we put an instrument in their hands and challenge them with a tune.

Once they have a specific goal, there is a recognizable achievement that they can hear with their own ears. Watching a conductor, listening to the person next to them playing, students are working toward a common destination, together as a group. This kind of communal goal emphasizes the value of overcoming differences toward a universal desire. Let us work together for something which is more beautiful than that of which we disagree.

MUSICA! Students learn to play violin, viola, cello, and bass in our free after school program for students in grades 2-12. . In addition to playing in an orchestral ensemble, students also learn to play solos and chamber music, conduct, compose, and teach as mentors. Our teachers are performing artists and seasoned music teachers who are driven by showing our students the joy that comes from successes built upon hard work and dedication

Private lessons and guest artists, attending a concert in Los Angeles, composition workshops and upgraded instruments. These activities and improvements feed back to our students inspiring them to express themselves and their understanding about the world through music

MUSICA! provides free afterschool and summer classes in playing violin, viola, cello and bass for residents of Hemet, San Jacinto, Idyllwild and surrounding areas, Classes are taught by performing artists and experienced string teachers in the belief that making music together builds our community by spreading good will and pride.

Health research has proven that music can actually improve healing of tissue and of course we know it heals human, animal and plant spirit. Music is the last language available to those with dementia. Music is the first language for babies learning to talk and it helps students of all ages to learn more easily in all language and number skills.

This year we continue to welcome new and returning students, all our students are eager to perform music. They greet high expectations with enthusiasm. They are sharing their expression in the community and with their friends and family through music.

With your help last year, we kept our staff well paid while the challenge of enticing well-trained performers to our area for part-time work remains.

Your donations now help us to maintain community outreach, to serve more students and to offer our students coaching and skill building to meet the demands of exciting performance.

We offer our musical healing to the wider community in celebration and exuberance.

We serve the communities of Hemet, San Jacinto, and surrounding areas in afterschool and summer music training on stringed instruments. Our students range in age from 5-20. We employ working performance artists and train high school age mentors, interested in leadership and teaching. We are a founding member of El Sistema USA

Help MUSICA! encourage new teachers and administrators to drive the distance to our valley – off the beaten path. We know that all children benefit from high expectations, skilled training from active professionals, and interaction with their community.

Music stimulates creativity, builds faster brain processing, teaches discipline and fosters community harmony. All children deserve the advantages of an arts education.

Grant funding like this will help us create attractive and well-paying jobs for arts management and instructors to continue providing enriched string education to our diverse population for ten more years.

We are a founding member of El Sistema USA. We serve 100-250 students yearly in after-school and summer classes in violin, viola, cello and string bass. Our students range in age from 5-18.
