More information about Inspiring Young Minds: Our mission is to help bright and motivated students obtain access to higher education at prestigious boarding schools around the country. IYM targets students in greatest need of its services. To date, over 450 students have been placed in schools and have received over $40 million in financial grants. Our scholar demographics are made up of over 87 percent African American and Hispanic students; 100 percent of IYM students attend college; 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college.

Each year we raise money to fund a scholarship in honor  of the late Diane K. Brown, a co-founder of Inspiring Young Minds (IYM) a non-profit that helps connect inner-city students with prep schools and higher education opportunities.

Diane was all things village.  She didn't just fight for access to greater opportunity for her children, she wanted it for all children. She pushed, inspired and... gave lots of hugs. Diane was a dreamer. And as a village leader, her dreams were for us all. Inspiring Young Minds in a manifestation of just one of her dreams.

In 2007, Diane lost her battle with ovarian cancer. Her spirit lives on.  And one way we honor her is by continuing her support of the village via this scholarship.

As many of us know, college is expensive! The Diane Brown Legacy Scholarship is awarded annually to a student who connects dreams with action. It's a reminder that the student's hard work isn't going unseen and,  perhaps most important, that he or she isn't alone. We are a village.

Update: We're trying to get to $5600 folks—we want to beat last year!
