Drop of Hope: Cotes-de-Fer Canal Clean Up
Help Bring Water Back to the Canal in Côtes-de-Fer!
For over 15 years, the main irrigation canal in Côtes-de-Fer, Haiti has been dry, damaged by hurricanes, choked by debris, and left without maintenance for many years.
But not anymore, not by the people who live there.
On May 30, 2025, seven men from the local community came together and began cleaning the canal by hand, with nothing but shovels, machetes, and faith. What started with just seven men quickly grew into a powerful movement. Every Friday, more volunteers join them, determined to restore the flow of this life-giving water, even without access to needed equipment like wheelbarrows or heavy machineries.
More recent videos of their incredible work will be shared in the coming days. Stay tuned and be inspired.
Now, the team is ready to double their efforts and meet twice a week — but they lack the tools and meals needed to sustain it. That’s where you come in.

Hope for a Village, Inc. has partnered with the clean-up team to support this community-led effort and created this campaign based on the average cost per workday (kombit) and the estimated number of kombits left to fully restore the canal.
Your donation will help:
• Buy essential tools like gloves, boots, shovels, and wheelbarrows
• Provide food and water for volunteers for mid-morning and after long days of physical labor
• Remove heavy debris
• Provide a food kit for the volunteers to take home to their families time per week.
