“Hope For A Village” (HFAV) Needs Your Strong Support…
Will You Stand with the Village of Cotes-de-Fer (CDF), Haiti
And
Help Restore the Canal for the Farmers?

Agriculture in Cotes-de-Fer has suffered over the last 10+ years due lack of water for irrigation. In October 2016, Mathew, a category 5 hurricane had devastated the CDF region, and its impact continues to be felt today. Unfortunately, the only canal that used to provide water for farming has been dormant because of the substantial damages left in the aftermath of the hurricane. With the ongoing national insecurity restricting transportation, the CDF region has faced severe food shortage and economic hardship.

Farmers in Cotes-de-Fer, many of whom depend entirely on seasonal bean harvests and other crops, have been unable to irrigate their land and grow the necessary food for subsistence. Tired of waiting for government actions, some ordinary folks challenged themselves to take matters in their own hands. They are determined to revive the canal, allowing at least partial water flow to resume in time for the upcoming bean planting season – until a full reconstruction can be achieved.

The Canal Restauration Project of CDF has made tremendous progress - clearing the canal of rocks, dirt, and other debris accumulated since the hurricane (See pictures). Unfortunately, a 375-meter section of the canal needs urgent repair to allow the water to flow. The volunteers have already accumulated rocks and sand for the repair but need the support of concerned Haitians, in Haiti and abroad, and Friends of Haiti to help them with acquisition of 600 bags of cement and cost of labor to complete this challenging task.

No contribution is too small, even one bag of cement will bring them closer to the desired outcome.
