Team Grow-Mo: Growing for Good This Movember!

This Movember, Team Grow-Mo is putting down the razors and letting the facial fuzz fly! From patchy to powerful, we’re embracing the moustache in all its glory to raise vital funds for Concrete’s Young Person Homeless Service – Station Street.

But we’re not doing it alone, we’re in a friendly face-off with Team No-Mo, who are giving up their favourite things for the month. It’s Grow vs. No, and it’s all for one incredible cause: giving homeless young people a Christmas they’ll never forget.

In September, we (Claire Smithard and I) will be walking the famous Potters 'Arf - a 13.1 mile route held in the city of Stoke-on-Trent. We are doing this on behalf of Glow, to support their Education and Prevention work and to raise funds to pilot a Safe Spaces Project. The Safe Spaces Project is a youth club-style initiative where children affected by domestic abuse can come together regularly in a safe, nurturing environment. It’s a space where they can connect, feel seen and heard, and begin to thrive.

Established in 1989, Honeycomb Charitable Services Ltd is a registered charity that is Breaking barriers, Building people, and Bettering homes.’ Glow is a sub sector of the honeycomb group and is one of the only vital support networks in Staffordshire and its surrounding areas.

Glow offers multiple support services tailored to the circumstances and needs of families, women and children whom are at risk or have experienced Domestic Abuse within their own homes.

The services include but are non-exhaustive to providing immediate emergency provisions and basics for children whom have had to leave a home and everything they have behind; specialised support for Domestic Abuse practitioners, refuge for those that have had to leave their homes or have lost their homes due to abuse, safe spaces for women and children to process, learn and navigate trough the trauma and healing amongst other avenues such as counselling, financial advise and support and play sessions for children.

On the 1st of August 2025 i will commence a 3 day hike known as the Staffordshire way route which spans 92 miles in total, from the north to the south of Staffordshire. Every penny you donate will go directly to this service to help fund more vital services in a time when funding is becoming more and more limited for such vital resources to keep women and their children safe.

I am challenging myself to do 300,000 steps by the end of July to push myself to new PBs and make a difference to the Homeless Young People of Stoke on Trent.

This cause is deeply important to me because every young person deserves a safe and supportive home. While that can look different for everyone, Concrete’s Young Person’s Service (YPS) plays a fundamental role in helping young people who didn’t get the secure start they deserved.

YPS doesn’t just provide accommodation for those experiencing homelessness—it offers holistic support to help young people build independent, fulfilling lives. From learning to manage their finances, to discovering their passions and shaping their career paths, to building the confidence to thrive—YPS empowers young people across Stoke-on-Trent to grow into their full potential.

We’re climbing Snowdon this July – and it’s all for a great cause!

On 2nd July 2025, we’ll be lacing up our boots and heading to the summit of Snowdon to raise funds for four incredible local charities (Alice Charity, YMCA North Staffordshire, Dougie Mac and Glow (part of Honeycomb Group)) that make a real difference in our community. Let’s Make Christmas Magic!

Christmas should be a time filled with excitement, laughter, and magical moments.

But for children spending Christmas in safe accommodation after fleeing domestic abuse, the season can feel very different.

Many families arrive at Glow’s refuge having left everything behind. The festive little extras so many of us know and love - advent calendars, Christmas Eve boxes, reindeer food, a trip to the panto - are luxuries they simply can’t afford.

This year, with your help, we want to bring that magic back ⭐

Through this campaign, we’re sharing stories and memories from young people about what Christmas means to them - the joy, the sparkle, the traditions. Not every child gets to experience these moments… but together, we can change that.

Safe, warm and supported – this winter and always

Winter is a challenging time for many of the people we support at Honeycomb Group. Rising living costs, freezing temperatures and increased loneliness, the winter season make life even harder for those already struggling. But with your help, our Winter Support Campaign can ensure people across our communities stay safe, warm and supported when they need it most.

Your kindness helps us provide emergency essentials, warm clothing, food, energy advice and safe accommodation across all our brands – Concrete, Revival, Staffs Housing and Glow. Together, we’re helping people through some of the toughest moments of their lives, and your support means we can go even further this winter.

• £5 could help our Concrete team buy a warm hat and gloves for someone sleeping rough.

• £10 would allow our Revival team to provide a winter support pack for an older customer.

• £15 could help a Staffs Housing family heat their home for a couple of days.

This summer we’re supporting Glow to create happy memories for children impacted by domestic abuse…

We’re proud to share that Glow, our domestic abuse specialists, has relaunched their Save Their Summer campaign - and we’d love your support.

If you were with us back in 2021, you might remember the original campaign, which raised over £3,000 to support Glow’s children and young people over the summer months.

This year, we want to build on this success and create even more happy memories for children and young people supported across our community and safe accommodation services.

Sadly many of the children Glow supports have never had what most of us would call a ‘normal’ summer - things like a trip to the cinema, a picnic in the park, or a takeaway on a Friday night. This campaign is all about changing that.

Through Save Their Summer, we’re inviting you to directly help us create these special memories through to tangible donations that will give a child a special moment to remember.

Here’s how your donation could help:

• ️ £5 could pay for a child’s first-ever cinema ticket

• £10 could fund a visit to a local wildlife centre

• ️ £20 could cover a meal out for a mum and her two young children

Myself Marcus Asbury ( Property Coordinator – Staffs Housing), Nick Tatler ( Property Coordinator – Staffs Housing and Neil Riley ( Assets and Contract Manager – Staffs Housing). To celebrate Stoke on Trent 100th anniversary, we are taking part in a challenge which will see us take part in a walk starting from Asda in Tunstall at 10am, covering Burslem, Hanley, Stoke and finishing in Longton park around 1.30pm

On a personal note, I have always enjoyed a challenge, and where there is an opportunity to support local charities. The hardest part of this challenge might be if this weather continues and it is a scorcher of a day!

This challenge is important to all of us because being local and having grown up locally, it gives you an opportunity to think about the memories over the years how things have changed and how it may have impacted you through your own journey.

The money we raise through this walk will be dedicated to Glow, the Domestic Abuse Charity in Stoke on Trent. This is because we appreciate their impact and importance within our city and the work they do to support people who may be at their most vulnerable is immeasurable and deserves recognition!

I will be sharing my updates on here as I know this is going to be a grueling challenge from start to finish. Since having my little boy, I haven't had any time to even think about my own health and wellbeing. So that stops today!! I used to love doing squats within my workout, so in order to reignite that motivation and passion I aim to challenge myself to new heights.

I have got a workout plan to stick to every week which switches up the types of squats i am doing so I can work on different areas of my glues and legs across the month and hopefully finish with a significant improvement to my health and wellbeing.
